Yes I am VERY angry but at a loss to know what to do or say for the best, she is my daughter in laws Mother, even so I know she thinks she is 'mad' herself. The woman is very unstable, in fact I think she is disturbed and in need of help to be honest. For instance she has a thing about shopping, the two spare rooms in her house are full to the ceiling with items she has bought and never even unpacked. I know this is not dog related but it shows what she is like. She is quite a worry actually, and her stupid husband just goes along with it.mad:
I intend to keep an eye on the situation though as I can see trouble brewing, she has never bred dogs before for a start, she doesn't have a clue, but of course thinks she knows it allrolleyes:

Well done you Mary - hope she will accept your help otherwise goodness knows what will happen to the poor animals! What an awful position for you to be in - good job your daughter in law understands where you are coming from! Will send you some rep for caring as soon as the system lets me (it says I've given out too much rep in the last 24 hours!)

Re: Breeds/KC/suffering

I am quite ignorant about breeds and wonder if I'm right that the Bergie and the Puli are the same? Sorry if I've offended by asking this but don't know much about those gorgeous dogs.

If the breeder does all the health screening then by all means charge a price that reflects that but they shouldn't be breeding for profit.
For me they should also consider the size of the two breeds. Obviously accidental breeding happens but if a new breed is to be created for what ever reason the size and genetic body structure of the two breeds should be considered too.

No offence taken - like my dad used to say, if you don't ask owt, you don't get to know nowt!

They are different dogs, although they are both sheep dogs - the Puli is from Hungary and the Bergamasco is from Italy. The Puli is smaller than the Bergamasco - its size ranges from 37-44cm, whereas the bergamasco ranges from 54-62cm. The coats are different as well - the Puli's coat is corded, whereas the bargamasco's coat is a flat felt. I don't know much more about Pulis, but Tashi does and will be able to tell you any info you want to know. On the other hand, I'm an expert on the Bergamasco - so ask away if you have any more questions!

Here is a pic of an adult Bergamasco

And here is a pic of an adult Puli

Can you see the difference in their coats?

We have always had pedigree dogs, Labradors, OESDs and Collies; we now have a crossbreed and find her temperament is better, her health is too and then I watched the programme about the KC and dog breeds - the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels suffering such agony; the Boxers having fits and decided that humans have forgotton that we have lost sight of the fact all dogs are mongrels and "breeds" are man-made and controlled by the breeders and KC who are causing these poor innocent creatures such abhorant suffering... why? People are slagging off crossbreeds/designer dogs and the cost of which IMO is cheaper than many pedigree costs.

gotta be a wind up.

Could not agree more.

This is a subject very close to my heart, and good breeders will also agree that something must be done.

The KC have a lot to answer for, and since the recent programme, they seem to be listening at last.
