Re: What age to introduce water.

Ours are 8 weeks too, we got them on Friday. Like the others have said its best to have her on water, because milk is more of a meal, yes it has nutrients and things, but water hydrates. Ours love water, took too it straight away, although Poppy likes to put her paw on the bowl whilst drinking so you can imagine how much water has been all over! lol. wouldn't have her any other way though.

Good luck.

You would have been given war and peace if you'd bought one of mine.

I wonder if the breeder meant she gave the pup puppy milk in additionm to water?

Did they not give you a puppy pack explaining when to give her water? Mine states clearly that 'fresh water must be available at all times'.

(sorry, Mrs. Dusty, ALL that wasn't aimed at you!)

Re: What age to introduce water.

Hi Kaz

Digby has been getting his Hills Science Plan Large Breed puppy food along with some goats milk. His breeder gave him this and he will get it for a couple more weeks yet. She said after this time, he can then stop having the goats milk with it.

However, all the time he's been getting water as well - were you putting the goats milk in your pup's food?

Sal

Re: What age to introduce water.

We had Amber at 8 wks old the breeder gave us a few bottles of their local water so when we got her home we could dilute it with with our local water and it would not up set her tummy. She is now 10 years old and she has never had anything else to drink.

Re: What age to introduce water.

Thanks guys I have now started to give her water on its own yesterday I mixed it a bit with milk but today shes just had water. She does have the goats milk in her Ready brek which she loves in a morning.

Thanks for all your advice like I said its been a long time since I had a puppy and my last one was 10 weeks old when i got him and was already on water.

Re: What age to introduce water.

hi kaz
my pup is 9 weeks now and when he came home the breeder said he has weatabix in the mornings to build him up, i said ok fine wat milk do i use she said oh just ours, been givin bailey that each morning since no problems, wasnt drinkin much water when he was first with us but breeder said he was on water with her so i just put a drop of milk in the water so it turns milky lookin and he started drinking it, i did that only at morning time then replacd it with fresh cold water an now drinks hat fine.stopped the weatabix because i think its makin him have doggy poos , but u will find if shes out in the garden she may try the rain water as mine does an then pulls his face at times with fresh.. just keep tryin she will drink it.

i also mix water with the dry food to make it soggy before addin bit of can food. vet said he is gettin plenty of water anyway if im doin that

Re: What age to introduce water.

I would introduce them to water the moment at the earliest opportunity - should be drinking water a long time before leaving the mother/breeder don't give milk - it contains lactose and causes diaroha!
regards
Sue
