I'm sorry but the welfare of the dogs, their breeds and their new owners is more important than someones hurt feelings.

If something is wrong it is wrong. Ignorance is no excuse. If you break a law ignorance of it is no excuse either.

Mistakes when made should not be compounded.

I think most people know that bitches can be spayed or dogs castrated, and the morning after jabs information is out there, and any Vet faced with an accidental mating from a client would advise of it's existence.

It is true that very few Vets know much about health testing, so don't advise their clients accordingly, but then their line of expertise is not breeding, but the diagnosis and treatment of illness.

It is interesting that in bygone days an accidental litter would almost inevitably be destroyed (often by drowning), because they would cost the owner loads ans were unlikely to find homes, and these were genuine accidents, yet now that people can sell their so called accidents they seem to occur an awful lot more even with fewer dogs roaming loose, and neutering being more easily available, not to mention misalliance jabs.

Lastly people come on forums and read the threads to gain knowledge and if all they see is bad breeding practises being supported with oh how lovely comments, they too will think it is OK to have such low standards, and yet another ill thought out litter is brought into the world.

Re: labrador puppies

its not your oppinions that are the problem but the way in which the are put forword.

Instead of being harsh and forceful and sometimes a little agressive, why not try being tactful and polite, people are much more likely to listen and take on board the advice given this way.

This lady asked a question...the first few answers (not all) made assumptions and came down hard on her, only to later find out that, yes she made mistakes...but it isnt all her fault!
Suddenly, those same members have a different approach to her. If only you had given this lady a chance to explain by asking simple 'polite' questions you would have found that out without causing grief.
If I were in the same situation I can honestly say I would have been put right off the forum and NEVER come back.
If you want to advise and help prevent these mistakes from happening in the future, then surely a more 'sedate' approach is needed? Or everyone new will run for the hills! Find another forum to join...or not bother at all and keep making the same mistakes.
I myself joined because I needed confirmation that I was doing everything right for my Dam and pups (labrador pups x 5) who incidentally, all stayed in the house and were just a pleasure to have.
I read up on everything I could get my hands on...I waited a good 18 months before I was sure it was what I wanted for both us as a family and my Dog (Megan). But that is what I choose to do...who is to say that this lady would not have done the same given half the chance? Yes, her dog was too young...maybe her vet didn't advise termination...may not have even mentioned it?? who knows?...not us...because we don't know ALL the facts!
I suppose I'm making assumptions myself now ...I know sometimes it turns out that the person asking the question is a complete twit and should not even own a dog let alone breed from one...and I know you are all passionate about anything to do with raising dogs, pups...animals of all sorts...but please give people a chance to explain themselves!
I'm sorry to go on, but it does frustrate and upset me when some people get jumped on, only to find their is a genuine reason for their mistakes.

(Whinging git this morning)
