why...because they are a big litter and need the room.
the shed is a dry and safe place with daylight coming in so they are not in the dark.only at night time.
yes mum was young.but we went off what the last owner had told us that she had a season.
she was checked out by the vet.
im sorry if you disapprove but im just trying to make good a bad situation.
I was saddened & shocked,Myself I would have had her to the vets and terminated the litter.
She is merely a puppy herself and is far to young to be raising a litter. They maybe a big litter but this should have been thought through properly before deciding to continue with the pregnancy.
I will echo whats already been said, the shed maybe dry & safe but it has no heating in there, the pups need human contact & socialising otherwise they may be timid & nervous leading to behaviour issues later on in life.

I honestly can't see how you are trying to make a bad situation good,by isolating them.

Do you own the father?

Re: labrador puppies

Maybe you could think about buying them a puppy play pen,so they are secure & safe in the house and still have everyday noise & human contact.

Good luck, being a breeder takes dedication, long hours, lots of cash, the hardest part is finding the right homes. People check out the breeder before considering taking one of your dogs, you will neaver regret doing it right, or have a problem getting good homes.

Glad we could all help, any more questions we are here, let us know how they get on and some photos would be great

i new here.
need to ask a question.
i have a litter of pups,
i was wonder when it would be safe to move them into a shed.
they are in the whelping box at the moment. but they are 4 weeks and very loud...lol.
do you think they would be ok in a shed...it has loads of room for them to play about
Puppies will need access to play outdoors at this age, ans some form of shelter while there out in their run is desirable, but they should be indoors for socialisation so that become well adjusted companion animals.

Of course they are noisy and demanding, that is what puppies are, and the reason fr this is they need lots of attention and stimulation.

I cannot understand why this litter was bred from an underage bitch with no health testing of the dam (hips and elbows scored and eyes tested), and probably untested sire.

You may like to read this to understand some of the issues regarding breeding so that you can at least minimise the poor start these pups have had.

Dog-Play: Use this guide to obtain a quality puppy from a responsible breeder

and if you can't see what is wrong with this kind of causal puppy production then read here: No Puppy Mills Canada - What is a Puppy Mill?

Also many people in your situation say "I,m not a breeder". Having allowed your bitch to have a litter be it your first or 50th litter, you are a breeder and have responsibilities to the pups for their whole lives, to their new owners to provide them with knowledgeable help and advice (do you have the knowledge?), and to the breed to ensure any pups you breed are bred for optimum Health, Temperament and standard, so that the quality of the breed is improved or maintained.

You owe it to your pups and their new owners to not compound your mistakes in breeding this litter with poor rearing and suggest you buy some books on puppy mental development and needs.

Ian Dunbar has a good book called something like: Before and After Getting Your Puppy. Please purchase it now (will arrive within 2 days from Amazon) and get to rearing those pups well.

Also I suggest you book your male and the bitch into the Vets to have their Hips and elbows scored, preferably now, and visit a BVA eye panelist to get them eye tested. the results of the Hips and Elbows may not be back before pups are ready for homing but the eye test is done on the spot.

I just hope neither are affected by an inherited eye disease or have very poor hips and elbows, as you might find some serious decisions need to be made regarding the pups futures.

If you do not do these tests and the pups develop problems their parents should have been tested for then the new owners would have every right to take you to court, and many more do so these days.

I hope your pockets are deep.

Re: labrador puppies

our puppy cassie was kept out side in a kennel as a puppie with the rest of the litter as a result we have had nothing but problems with her confidence, she is scared of everything, strangers, the hoover, cars, bikes, thank god she is getting better but still suffers as a result. if i had been in my better judgement i wouldnt have bought her but when i saw her i couldnt help it i knew we could give her better than what she had

The fault lays with the breeder of your Dog, give her a call, challenge her ethics, cos she pointed you in the wrong direction, she could cost you a fortune and get you struck off before you even start
