Dogs transported by crap Airlines !!??***^%4

Hi there ...

Our 2 dogs are currently in quarantine. Weve had a really crap experience with the airline... delays, collapsed crates and hours of unnecessary waiting for my poor dogs. Just wanted to know if anyone else out there has had really poor service / experience ?

ps Quarantine are great just the flight over thats been horrendous

xxx

What a shame! I brought my dog home from Australia about 5 years ago with BA and they were fantastic, no problem at all. I was worried sick for the duration though, so it must have been awful for you and the poor pooches.

Kira didn't have to go into quarantine, Australia being covered by the Pets Passport scheme (as it's known to be a rabies free country). How long to the poor pups have to stay in quarantine?

We are going on a snowboarding holiday in April and have thought about putting Daisy (16month Labrador) into a dog...care....place thingy or leaving her at my mothers but. It just seems to unfair. If we go on holiday, why cant your beloved pet ?!?

So what are the rules and regulations with flying a dog over to Austria / Italy / France ?

How stressful is the whole ordeal for the dog involved ? I cant imagine they fly 1st class ?

what a shame, one of my client took there dog over to aus they went first and found a place to live while the dog stayed here with me then was sent over later on.
the dog arrived safe and sound, ok a little stiff but he was a old boy.

at the moment i have loki staying going off to canada soon the crate arrives here fist so he can get used to being in it. then a company comes and take's him to the airport.

Yeah, i had a company do all the work for me too. I just had to get the vet work done and then hand over the paper work and they turned up at the door with the crates (cat and dog).

Although i was crying so hard after they left I was blowing bubbles out of my nose

All turned out well though, but Methical, I wouldn't chose to take them on holiday with me... airline travel has to be stressful for the animal, not to mention costly. You also have to get all the vet paperwork... I assume that means rabies jabs & blood tests (it did for me, and it's not cheap) and annual boosters if you're going to travel with them more than once.

Besides, on a more practical front, unless you're going to stay with friends, or something, what are you going to do with Daisy while you're snow boarding? Or going out for dinner?

I don't mean to pour damp water on the idea, I tend to holiday in this country and take my dogs with me, but it does restrict you. I can see how it would be great if you were going camping in France, for instance, and you might drive there, or if you had your own holiday home somewhere, perhaps....

Be interested to hear what you decide and how it goes if you do take her though...

We always choose the type of holiday we can share with our dog. We have taken her to France about 9 times, 7 times to the South of France.

We go in the car, use the Channel Tunnel as it's the faster way to cross The Channel, and we can all stay together, we have one night stop over on the way down no problems with the dog.

The best thing is they treat Amber as part of the family and she can go to most places with us, we have never been turned away from a restaurant, we always ask as she is a large dog, but they always seem to give her a warm welcome, she usually gets a bowl of water before we get the menu.

Funny I thought we were the dog loving country (I'm not so sure anymore)rolleyes:

Delighted to know you can take them into restaurants on the continent... is that France specific, or more widespread than that? Never seen dogs in restaurants here... there's probably some silly H&S rule about dogs and food... or do I just need to get out more??

Although I have come across loads of pubs who are happy to have dogs. Even if you do have to sit outsite in the wind and rain and driving sleat that regularly hits the west coast of Scotland.

Still, us Glasgwegians will go to any length for a drink

But I think I've gone a bit off topic, since this was a thread about airlines... sorry
