Husky owners?

What collars do you put on your dogs?
I only ask as Isis is a husky x and has a big collar its massive well its getting to small for her
So i need a bigger one, but it needs to be on her at all times as she has a history of running away and it has all of my details on it so i cant let her not have a collar on.
She is 10 months old now and is not growing as in height but she is bulking out now so my other question is are there any sledging clubs about? I know she is still to young to do this but the rate she's going she would be really good at it so would like to look at it for the future xx

Re: Husky owners?

hi jem, my two have harnesses, and i have put their tags onto them and don't have collars on them when i go out, they have got some but they are a tad too big and their old ones were too small. they are from my local pet shop but i think pets at home sell them. i prefer the harness as the collers wern't as secure and i can haul them out of streams better by the harness as no fear of it popping over their heads, and the collars were leaving a mark in their fur as they are really furry around the neck. don't know of any sledging places but you could get a scooter.

Re: Husky owners?

the ones i have are quite chunky, made from that webbing stuff i think with sort of padding in the inside, so are suited for large breeds.

Re: Husky owners?

I don't know, but some companies make them to order.

How does she keep running away? can't you just make your garden more secure?

She hasn't run away for a month now, we dont have the money to put up 8ft fences around the garden but when we do have the money it will be done

Re: Husky owners?

Hi, I have a Briard long haired dog so I have to be careful about rubbing her hair away, so we use a nylon webbed choke collar which has a small chain to join it together. I never use it as a choker as I don't believe in them, but it is loose enough that it does not come off at home, and tight enough that it does not come off when we take her a walk, but if she pulls a little it will not hurt her.

Re: Husky owners?

I have 2 huskys and run a husky discussion forum .... I would definatly advise getting yourself a hareness and would also get another collar. Huskys should never been off the leash as you'll probably already be aware but the problem is they tend to be clever buggers at getting off them too .... Make sure when you buy your collar that it is tight enough. You should be able to slip 3-4 fingers behind but it should not be able to come off. Link leads are also very worthwhile as you can link the leash to both harness and colar, this way if one fails then you still have hold of your husky

Re: Husky owners?

Recall isnt usually an issue to be honest .. Its the hunting instinct.

Thats not to say they will attack things, rather chase things. Its amasing how many people have said the same as yourself then I've seen them months down the line upset because they have gone missing. My Parents are breaders of huskies and have been for a fair while so used to seeing it ..

Whats the mix btw?
