Toilet Training

Hi all,

Just been reading up about my Bichon Frise and training him. On Wikipedia (Bichon Frisé - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) it states "Train the dog to use a specified area outside, preferably on an area that is stone."

I know Wikipedia is wrote by members of the public so was just wondering if this is true and why stone?

Thanks,
Darren

Re: Toilet Training

hi Darren, my first thought would be, because its easier to clean, and second if you have a lawn it will stop your pup spoiling it

Re: Toilet Training

My dog does her 'business' on the patio, much better to 'pick up' and is easily disinfected.

Re: Toilet Training

I prefer my dog to toilet on grass. I find it easier to pick it up, I brake/tear blades of grass but grass grows. I can't clean it properly off stone or paving, I end up washing, scrubbing and disinfecting. Too much like hard work for me.

Re: Toilet Training

I let Oscar go on the grass. He's made his own little area where he usually goes. I also just grab blades of grass. I wouldn't want him going on the path where people walk etc.

Re: Toilet Training

We initially used a sandpit filled with gravel for our Yorkie and now dh has built a small area at the bottom of the garden filled with gravel for him to go on - he went by himself for the first time the other day! He is still toilet training so we take him there and he knows to do his business! The rain washes the gravel and we pick the poo and dispose of it. I didn't want poo on the grass with our little one running around.
