Re: Why?

I was speaking about (not literally of course), the programme which I believed was Panorama, about the KC.

With regard to the RSPCA I am currently having heated discussions about their rehoming cats policy.

We rehomed two cats from the RSPCA, one of which had extremely red gums to the point that I took her straight to our vets who suggested they screen her for feline aids and leukemia!!! I was horrified, since I had assumed that these tests would have been carried out as a matter of course. After all, a responsible organisation such as the RSPCA , would not want a cat being let into the community to possible infect any other cat they met!

Having spoken with a representative, I was informed that Melody's gum problems had been noted as gingivitis (not mentioned to us), and that it was on our paperwork that cats are not screened for the above.

I could find no mention of this at all, and poor Melody had the majority of her teeth extracted! Of course we would still have given her a home, but a lot of people may not have noticed her gums and she could have been in agony for goodness knows how long.

Discussions ongoing.

No, I didn't see the program, but it doesn't surprise me. I agree wholeheartedly that it is time someone investigated this organisation. There is too much interfering in things that don't concern them, too much "power-playing" amongst the people at the top, and not enough doing things that they should be doing - ie rescuing animals who are being ill-treated.
