Re: spaying - before or after first heat?
I think alot depends on if you feel your dogs old enough to you to go through the op yet. Alot of vets reccomend to do it before there first session it depends as to how you think she is and how she would cope with her session when it arrives. Also making sure shes well away from male callers if your not planning to breed from her. Out of interest what breed is she.

Re: spaying - before or after first heat?
Our girl is 5 months old and everyone we have spoken to (vets, breeders etc) have said to wait until she is fully mature in both body & mind before having her spayed, and that may even mean a couple of seasons, we'll just see what happens when she has her first season.
I have also known people have their dogs spayed before a season with no problems, so I'd say go with what you feel is best for your individual dog |

Re: spaying - before or after first heat?
I know they say that smaller breeds mature a little faster than larger ones and often have a ealier session. I think it down to personal choice. But i know what you mean when you worry as they are so little.
