Re: Buying a dog from this place?

I'm sorry if you've already said but what are you looking for in a dog; exercise and temperament etc?

The thing is I have had a dog before and it did not go to well. We got her from a shelter and she had really bad behaviour problems. This time I am really doing my research. Because we have cats and want a low energy breed, and my mum found having out old dog really difficult she says we have to know what dogs are in the dog. I would love to go to a rescue but because we have cats we need to get the puppy as young as we can ie 8 - 9 weeks and it is difficult to find puppies of the types we want in rescue homes. I keep checking the loocal ones and have seen young pups but they are terriers which would not be suitable. I would not so uch mind having a pedagree but I would prefer and mogrel or cross breed but that is why we need to go to a breeder or not a rescue home. My mum wants to know the dogs back ground and be sure of what is in it.

I know that sounds long and complicated but it is the truth.

I am not nessisarily going to get a dog from that place ... I am still not sure about it and would prefer to get a dog from an accidental mating but I am just investigating.

xx
If you have had a dog before and had problems, you need to make sure you get a dog from a breeder who will give you lifelong support and, if the worst comes to the worst, take the pup back from you if you can't keep it.

If you get any mongrel or crossbreed, even if you know what is in it, you will still have an unkown quantity. You won't know what it is going to look like, how big it will get, what characteristics it will have etc. So, how can you say you love them, as they all have different personalities and looks and you might just as well be saying you love all dogs, which would include pedigrees. You will also almost certainly be getting it from a breeder who will not care less what problems you have once they have your cash.

Did you ask your vet about the sort of people who breed these crossbreeds? My vet has all sorts of horror stories about so calle dbreeders and the pups they see once they have been homed at 8 weeks. often riddled with worms or worse.

Re: Buying a dog from this place?

I do love all dogs, whether I would have them as a pet is different but I do love them all.

I am looking for a small dog who is generally good with other animals and frienly, I want a low energy dog so basically the breeds which require less exercise and just one that is good for apartment life - we do have a back and front garden though. I also want one that is good with sheep - we will have to train it because every holiday we go to the country where there are lots of fields and long beaches for the dog which is good!

However I noticed that this place has many puppies for sale. They say they are fully licensed and on epupz there is this sign to show that the cousil have approved their kennels and they have checks often however I noticed that lots of sites say to be wary of places selling lots of dogs and I dont want to buy from somewhere that is anything like a puppy farm and treats their animals badly

Pugaliers in Cardigan, Pembrokeshire ( Dogs For Sale )

notice how there are lots of listings from the same place:

What do you think, does this look like a safe place to buy or not?
Yip it is a forum and it would not have been any of our business But she did ask so opinions and advice given!!!!!(original post above)

Re: Buying a dog from this place?

Oh yes I did ask for you advice and opinions. And I appreciate them all, some of them I agree with and others I dont but I never came here for a fight. I have also taken advice from people I know with dogs and one of my grannies friends who has had dogs all her life and knows so much about them.

Okay fair enough. I just think that place sounds appalling... but at the end of the day if people want to buy from puppy farms, yes that sadly is their own business

If you read the whole post I think I was pretty nice to Leah and was just explaining why so many responses she was getting were a bit frosty.

Re: Buying a dog from this place?

Think this thread has now run its natural course and is now getting a little argumentative.

At the end of the day Leah asked for advice and has been given advice as to puppy farms and health testing etc. I think it is now time for Leah to make up her own mind where she is going to get her pup from and what pup she is going to get, all it leaves to say now is think it through Leah think of the pros and cons of the different breeds and breeders and hope everything works out for you.
