Feeding dogs only six days a week?

Just wondered if any of you only feed your adult dogs six days a week.

I was talking to a lady whose husband has just joined the dog unit of the police and they will have a GSD with them soon that they are only to feed six days a week.

I also read that its really good for an adult dogs health.

Its intriguing me and would like to hear your opinions.

Yes I have done this in the past, but only with adult dogs. It is said that a fast day once a week is beneficial, it gives the tummy chance to rest. I think it is basically to try and make things more natural. In the wild animals would only feed when they managed to make a kill, they certainly wouldn't fill their bellies twice a day like our pet dogs.
I also think it would go a long way to help with dogs that are fussy feeders, half the time pet dogs, and cats are fed far too much.

Re: Feeding dogs only six days a week?

Utter buncum, why would anyone want to feed a dog 6 days a week. I have kept dogs all my life and they got fed every day, twice daily.
They would probably only eat a couple of days a week in the wild but they are domesticated. You could say the same for us.
I would not dream of eating everyday and my dogs would not get fed.

Re: Feeding dogs only six days a week?

We all feed differently and have differing views on the way, what and how often to feed, I too have lived with dogs all my life and we feed just once a day unless they are under a 12 month, in whelp, sick or old

A lot of raw feeders only feed 6 days a week. Not something I've ever considered but each to their own.

I meant to say that, looking at the human race , most of us would be in better health if we had a fast day,

I've never heard of that before, not something I would consider doing though I don't think.
