Re: Feeding dogs only six days a week?

The commercial dog foods are made as a balanced diet starving them one day a week, in this day and age is daft

'Commercial dog food is a balanced diet' Mmmm
Well tin food for one is 80% water, and God knows what some dogs get fed judging by the brilliant coloured 'piles of pooh' I see on the pavement sometimes

Re: Feeding dogs only six days a week?

I've missed a meal once in awhile for them but never a whole day. If it's after 9 pm I don't feed them until the morning, but it's rare that we are not home in time for 6:30 supper for them...Jill

I wonder why the Police Force do it.

The woman I was talking to hadnt heard of it until her husband joined the Dog section of the police.

I'm sorry but just because you have never heard of this doesn't make it stupid. It has been practiced for many years by breeders who have a lot more knowledge of dog breeding and rearing that the likes of your average pet owner, who lets face it more often than not, through ignorence, are killing their dogs with kindness. It pays sometimes to listen to breeders that are older and wiser, andI feel its a shame that some of the old 'tried and tested' methods are being ignored today

Re: Feeding dogs only six days a week?

I haven't heard of it. I feed my dog one portion split into two meals a day with 24 hour access to dry food.

He only eats what he needs which I find a bit unusual my previous dogs didn't know when to stop so I couldn't leave food down for them.

Same here. If more owners were to treat their dogs as DOGS they would be far better for it.
