Exclamation My Westie just died

Hello all,

I am new to this forum, and I was hoping that someone out there could help me please.

My pet Westie went for a run through the woods with her brother, he came back after 15 mins, but thelma came back about an hour later and started vomiting. She was a grazer and would eat anything so we were not too concerned as this had happened so many times.

Anyway she was still and lifeless the following morning, I was unable to take her to the Vets as my Son was really ill with tonsilitus (sp) so I had to take care of him first.

During the afternoon she seemed to be improving so my plan was to take her to the Vets the following morning, but when I got up to see her she had taken cover (which I believe a dog does do when they know they are dying?) and she was dead.

What on earth could she have eaten for that to happen so quickly, I have been through the forest and I couldn't find anything - like a mushroom. I feel so guilty - this will stay with me for the rest of my life. If only my son (who is just 5) hadn't been ill I would have taken her straightaway in the morning to the vets.

I live in France and there are no emergency vets on call on a sunday evening.

Please anyone out there - help me.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I don't know what she/he could have got into. Maybe someone had bait out for mice or something like that. So sorry....Jill

She could have eaten anything. Are there any fields nearby were the farmer may have been spraying pesticides or pioson in the hedges?
