Re: first off lead experience
Well done for being brave
I am yet to do it with Willoughby... I don't have an enclosed area to practice. The local park he can fit through the railings... and I am too chicken to let him off in an unenclosed area ![]() Being that he's a terrier and will more than likely chase anything that runs, I'm giving it some time until I feel he's better trained for the "leave" command. |

Re: first off lead experience
I was afraid because of the chasing things too. We have wild rabbits and pheasants running about here
but they have never chased them in the garden so I thought just give it a go LOL but I wouldnt trust them together at the same time off lead here... Not yet ![]()

Well done!! That's very cool.
Isn't that feeling when you let them off for the first time to test the waters THE WORST, You feel like any moment your hearts going to jump out your throat and run down the road! Well done to both you kids for doing so well and you for being so brave ![]()

Re: first off lead experience
Wow well done - its horrible letting them off at first! but they soon get the hang of it .. i let Bella off for the first time the other day and she immediately took flight and ran off though when i called her and ran in the opposite direction she soon legged it after me. #
OScar is a year and i have a training lead for him - probably being over cautious but want to make sure i have his recall right as he can run like the wind.. he is getting much better though and has his Bronze KC good citizen tomorrow so fingers crossed

Re: first off lead experience
Well done..If you have a park or oval you can go to and train there, where there are lots of distractions and smells it will pay off.Make sure you have your recalls down pat but it sounds like you know what youre doing.Happy training.

Re: first off lead experience
I've taken Amber and Simba out today and let them of their lead for the first time. I take them to work and use their security fenced car park. It may be that they have to run n tar mac but at least I know they are safe until their recall is good. I take their dad Owen with me as he has a really good recall and doesn't like to leave his mum.
I too didn't need to worry they were fine
