You are right, and because I don't smoke I find it disgusting picking them up. Its much easier tipping tabs out of an ashtray into a bin; or as I have seen mentioned they could use either our outdoor bin or kitchen bin which is right by the side door.

I think guests think I'm over fussy because I follow them out with ashtray in hand.

Well I don't smoke myself and never have. My mum doesn't smoke either, but my dad and brother do. But they aren't allowed to smoke in the house, they have to go outside . It hasn't always been like that though, my mum decided to make up the smoking rule about 8ish years ago... so back then (in the past 8 years) we didn't really have any pets apart from a rabbit, which was outside and I had some hamsters which were in my room.

When we had our previous dogs (never had cats until 2005), they were around my dads smoke... not my brothers as he didn't start till about 16 I think.

Personally I don't agree with smoking excessively around pets. Some might not agree with smoking around them AT ALL.

I smoke but only outside or the doorway/porch if it's really bad weather. Don't smoke around the animals if possible but Alvey has a habit of wanting to sit on your knee while your having a fag.

Oh God, my nan was a really bad smoker. I think she used to smoke near on 2+ packets of fags a day!!!! So, about 40+ fags.

When you went into her bungalow you couldn't see where you were walking, it was really bad. Her poor animals had to put up with it as well She died of lung cancer ...

I don't smoke, never have, never will and I think it is disgusting when smokers infect other people / children / animals with their dirty deadly air.

i smoke in and outside of my home..and yes the dogs are usualy with me..try having a fag on your own mia and kai follow me everywhere.

I stopped smoking on 6th Feb this year - my dogs were a big part of me quitting. Unfortunately I do have an odd puff now - BUT I always go outside.

Me and my OH packed up smoking in January 2007 because we knew we were getting Logan and didn't want to smoke round the pup. Now 20 months on I have been back on the fags for 12 months, and my "superier" fella is still off them, even though he was a 40 a day smoker and I was a 5 a day smoker

It's not just that they inhale the smoke, the main danger comes from the particles in the smoke get into their coat and when licking themselves they ingest far more toxins and "Bad for you" rubbish than they do through the inhalation of smoke.

Hidden dangers are the worst!!!!
