Re: Urgent Advice Required
Quote:
They don't shed an awful lot but even so I have heard this doesnt stop problems with allergy sufferers as its the flakes of skin and dust caught in the fur that causes most symptoms. There is a member on here I think she's called Sophiex who has a toy poodle and still suffers allergic reactions even though the dog doesn't moult. Without sounding like a nag make sure you do your research because there are so many pups that have to be rehomed due to allergy sufferers buying them then later having to give them up ![]() |

Re: Urgent Advice Required
Hello and welcome.
I don't know anything about the breed. Is it possible to spend a bit of time with the dogs to see if your allergy is triggered. I am fairly sure there are antihistamines available - check with your pharmacy. Occasionally allergies can be overcome naturally by constant contact but it's not a guarantee. I can't give an honest answer as to whether male or females produce different amounts of dander but I would have thought it would be the same. I would think the size of the dog would make a difference not gender. Having said that males tend to be a little bigger, but Bichon Frize are small dogs. I have only owned male dogs as a child my parent had a female. I don't think there is a difference some say female dogs are more loyal and affectionate, males can be more headstrong. I haven't found a difference. If I'm honest I choose males because there is no problems as they mature with seasons, and for me there would be a need to have a female spayed to avoid unwanted litters. Sue |

Re: Urgent Advice Required
Thanks for the replies so far,
We have been offered a male Bichon Frisé. I am going to get a HEFA air Purifier for the front room and bedroom, annd also look into the different medicines/injections I could get. We will also keep the place nice and clean. It's a small dog so we are really hope that we don't have too many problems with allergies. We are on a trail period with the dog so we can return it if we have any problems. Any other comments/advice? |

Re: Urgent Advice Required
i have allergies to most animals, especially horses. with my cats im ok as long as i wash my hands straight after fussing or touching them, as if i put them near my face, thats when it starts. but with my dogs i have to say that i have no problem with them at all and i read that their fur is hypoallegenic, which was a definate bonus when i was looking at stuff about them before we got them. they have a double coat so i don't know if this is what makes the difference to their skin flakes not causing allergies, but it is so nice to be able to hug them near my face and not suffer. however this info is not alot of use to you darren as they are husky x mals, but may be of use for others looking for allergy free dogs

Re: Urgent Advice Required
Hi I dont know enough about the breed to help very much, but with regard to allergies you could contact Ainsworth http://www.ainsworths.com/site/default.aspxPharmacy, check out this link
They can sometimes help, my daughter is allergic to cats and years ago when she got a kitten asked their advice and was told to send a clipping of the fur and they would make up an appropriate remedy. I don't know if they still do this, but it worth giving them a ring if after you get your dog you find it is effecting you. Welcome to the group by the way. ![]() ![]() Mary x |
