Clumber Spaniel

I am thinking of expanding my canine collection and really really fancy the idea of a clumber spaniel. From what I have read they seem to have a spot on temperament and would probs do well with Lily and my kiddy winks.

However I dont know of anyone who owns one.

DO any of you peeps? If so, what are they really like to live with??

Many thanks

Mrs D (wanting another cuddly doggy)

Re: Clumber Spaniel

I don't have one but I've been on a couple of forums where people do - they seem brilliant.
But they do have a health downside as they have the worst hips of practically any breed you can name. They are not easy to get hold of - long waiting lists usually.
One of the most knowledgeable breeders is Chris at Scherzando (get it on a Google) and if she is no longer breeding them she will know who is.

Clumber are lovely but yes they do have a few health issues but its more that they are very hard to get hold of and theres normally quite a waiting list. There not so commonly seen. My friend owned one and she said he was a lot more calmer but she had to really watch his weight. They are more sedate than the cockers and springers generally.

Re: Clumber Spaniel

I think that they seem like a super breed.

I would have liked to get one but they are so rare and I was a bit cautious about their problem hips and bits.

Good luck with your search.

Re: Clumber Spaniel

My Auntie had one named Hannah, she was so beautiful! However despite being a well bred dog she still suffered a lot of health problems. What a wonderful dog she was, however they have said they will never have another because of her bad health. She didn't live a long live either.

I do have photos but they've been packed away (we're moving soon). I would have scanned them for you otherwise!

He was a really nice dog!! looked and acted dull but he used to finish is name off when u called him u'd get to say 'nem' but he would finish it 'ooooooooo' but did slobber all the time hence the bib.

Friends of ours have them and they told me they are rather noisy, they have what they called the 'clumber howl' which nemo used to do.
