my boy killed a rat

My terrier killed a big rat this morning (his first). It came out of my feed room this morning when I moved a sack and of course I freaked out. he chased it, caught it and despatched it in about 10 seconds, but the worst was he was so proud he tried to bring it to me and chased me round with it in his mouth. I have got a real phobia abouit rats and put poison down , but I think the weather has been so bad they are looking for nice dry places to go. I had to go in and get his squeky toy which he loves in order for him to drop the rat, I then had to bury it and discinfect his mouth and face with dettol. It then took half an hour to get toy from him as it gets on your nerves with him squeking it constantlyand winding the other dogs up. All this in the middle of doing ponies and trying to get to work on a Monday morning. Told him he was a good boy though.

Re: my boy killed a rat

what a good boy he is, thats what they love to do catching rats,
carry some treads and when he does it again offer him one of them, something he has to take his time over chewing, so he drops the rat so you can bury it.

Re: my boy killed a rat

That is what terriers do!

I thought I had better edit this as it looked a bit blunt (was not meant to be) that's great - well done - now the aim is to do it quickly - hope you managed that
