Re: Dog handling

Wildlife and Conservation Management.

I started off on the behaviour trail but realised it wasn't really for me, I want to get more into rescue and rehabilitation now which is why I switched courses. Especially rehabilitation of British native species.

Re: Dog handling

Well if you go for behaviour at university (if you wanna go to uni) I'll warn you that it's VERY sciencey and you get little or no contact with animals.

I'm going back to where I went to college, so I know there will be a lot of contact with animals as a routine part of the course.

Re: Dog handling

Hi,

Thank you all so much, your replies were very helpful and are much appreciated. I have chosen that I would like to go to a training school, even if it is on a voluntary bases, its still experience and learning right? Whilst doing this, I would like to do the COAPE courses up to the advanced level in Canine behaviour, you never know, I could end up doing the Diploma! But is it worth that much money!? And if I'm lucky, i could get a part time Job in a kennel.

I would just like some other tips, I mean so far, all I know about is COAPE, and I've heard that a lot of Colleges do courses in Dog training and Dog Psychology, is this the case? If so, can anyone give me tips on good courses at college or Uni? I even heard its possible to study full time for a degree! I know nothing about this lol.

I would really appreciate your help.

Thank you for your time,
Stevj016.

Re: Dog handling

There are TONNES of degrees out there, best thing to do is google the subject.

As for colleges, I don't know anything about COAPE courses...just the national diploma.

Good luck!

Re: Dog handling

It's done in lots of colleges across the UK. If you want to find a course that's really practical based, ie lots of work with animals I'd suggest looking into an agricultural college. Because you live in London (I think this is right) the places nearer you might not have many animals to work with, but there are colleges where you can live in too which are great!

I went to Sparsholt, and am going back there starting next week! It's fan-bloody-tastic! You can live in and there are SO many animals there, a real wide variety...even a red panda. Here's the link: Sparsholt College Home Page

And the link to the national diploma: National Diploma Animal Care

And a link to the facilities: Animal Centre
