Re: Micro chipping

Oscar was small for his age so the vet recommended we wait (just becuase the needle was big and she thought it might be just a bit too uncomfortable for him - either that or they wanted another consultation fee on reflection) anyway he was done just short of 5 months old.
Bella was done with second lot of injections

Re: Micro chipping

Are my vets on a different frickin planet to everyone elses? First the neutering thing now this! I was advised specifically to wait until he is neutered so that he can have it as he is coming round from the anaesthetic as the needle is so big it isnt very kind to do it to a pup of first injection age?

Pups have more loose skin round theirm neck so isn't a big deal for them. Both mine were 10 weeks old and hardly flinched to be honest, also its peace of mind cuz if the pup ran off at least they are covered

Re: Micro chipping

Sorry, don't know what planet your vet is on. Yes, it is a big needle but 2nd injection seems to be normal for medium breeds upwards.
But what the vet doesn't tell you is there are different kinds of chip. They all identify.

The modern ones (supposedly) do not move, but my youngest has the most modern chip and it has migrated from her shoulder to way down on the lower leg. It's not causing a problem but it would probably be missed if she were to go astray. The older chips on her parents have not moved at all, still on the shoulder/neck area.

When I had the youngest one chipped I wanted the temperature chip - no need to do a rectal temperature (most dogs hate it and it's really upsetting for an owner to do, I know) but my vet does not do it, nearest one is 90 miles away. You just wave the scanner over the chip to get the body temperature.

Another good chip is the locator chip, very much used in Germany for hunting dogs - you have the kit (sort of like tom tom) and the map shows you where the dog is. One of my pups (ESS) was bought be by a German Licensed Hunter to hunt wild boar and the pup was to be chipped for this. The dog goes in the direction of the boar so you know where the boar is likely to be - and if the dog is injured, he can be found easily.

Yeah thats what I thought, its worrying really, but because they made it out the pup would be in pain I completely shut off to the idea. I dont even wanna think what would happen if he ever managed to get out or was stolen. Hmm im guna give them a ring on mon. x

They probably feel pain for about a second, but both mine got given treats by the vet after which soon made them forget all about it. Definitely didn't slow them down at all and both were playing like mad hatters as soon as they got home. I'd defo give them a call and get your pup booked in

That's what my breeder said but I think I'm going to get it done sooner rather than later.
