Has anyone elses dog managed to destroy Air Kong Tennis Balls

Hiya ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, i was just wondering has anyone else been disappointed with the air kong squeaky tennis balls, i thought kong products were meant to be fairly indestructible,he hasnt damaged his normal kong yet. I bought some for my 3.5 yr German Shephard Collie Cross (more collie) off amazon not long along definately kong as in original unopened packaging and more expensive than standard tennis balls and my dog has managed to destroy two of the three i gave him out of the packet fairly quickly, the third is still in the packet. He has the harder variety of tennis balls but won't play with them they sit in his toy box. The pet ones are useless too and even the 3 for a £1 sports tennis balls get damaged fairly quickly. He breaks all balls in half eventually during play, unless his at flyball theres don't seem to be damaged. Anyone got any brainy ideas for a product that resembles a normal tennis ball and lasts for large breed dogs and there crosses.

Re: Has anyone elses dog managed to destroy Air Kong Tennis Balls

My Mum uses 'professional' tennis balls with Skye, her lurcher. The sport ones are far thicker and tend to last a lot longer: and if you shop in the right places, they're often not that expensive either. My Mum gets hers from places like sports direct/warehouses, the big sports shops that often have massive sales on sports equipment- they tend to come in a metal or a plastic tube with about four or five balls inside.

They're not indestructible, but she now only has to buy a tube every three months or so as oppose to him puncturing the cheapo balls within five seconds of playing with it!

Yes

We use rubber or latex balls or proper proffesional tennis balls.
Zipper doesn't try to destroy the 'real' tennis balls only the dog toy or cheap ones

I always buy Slazenger - I tend to loose them before they get destroyed - although I only use them for fetch, I don't leave Zipper alone with them
Slazenger Solo 3 Ball Tube - SportsDirect.com

Have you tried Tuff Balls?

Tennis balls aren't really the toughest of toys, but these should certainly be more durable than normal ones.

Sonny can desqueak kong tennis balls in about 10 minutes. The balls them self last longer than this as he rips all the fluff off them - I do not mind that much though and still buy them as they are not that expensive. He does have rubber balls as well though which last longer (also has a JW rubber squeeky one which has lasted ages and he has unfortunatelty not managed to desqueak it - the squeak druives me crazy). Other than this I find that the tennis balls in pundland last him ages as he can not pull the fluff out as easy

Re: Has anyone elses dog managed to destroy Air Kong Tennis Balls

Rupert can wreck most things, I don't give tennis balls because I was warned repeatedly chewing them can erode the teeth and damage them.

I've got some Air Kongs for xmas for the other dog as he loves fetch, but wont let them chew them.

Re: Has anyone elses dog managed to destroy Air Kong Tennis Balls

Yes, we spend a lot of money on these balls I don't like the air kong variety, I remember buying these when they weren't just 'kong' and they were a lot more durable, but all I seem to find is these now. The squeaker goes a lot quicker. When do you let your dog have them? Our pup who can destroy them in about 10 minutes will happily play fetch with them and just squeak them when he's outdoors in the park. But if you give them to him indoors he'll sit down with them like it his mission is to tear it apart, so he's not allowed them indoors. A good, durable substitute with something akin to a squeaker are these:

Armitage Dog Toy Ball Pimple Rubber 5cm | Net Pet Shop

They're not exactly like a tennis ball, but have a jingle to attract them and also last a long time! Ours won't entertain a non-noise-making ball, unless it's a rubber one like this as they have a good bounce:

Kong Dog Toy Ball Solid Rubber Red | Net Pet Shop

They're also very durable and last a long time!

Re: Has anyone elses dog managed to destroy Air Kong Tennis Balls

I've tried a variety of Kong products, none last long, I now buy used tennis balls off e bay for around 75P each. They are virtually indestructable, the only time I need to replace is when she drops one and loses it on the beach.

Prior to this she was eating "specialised" dog toys on a daily basis.

Re: Has anyone elses dog managed to destroy Air Kong Tennis Balls

Yes I'm afraid so. My lot must have got through at least 100..!!

I tend to keep them for special training sessions as they do love them.

The alternative that they seem to like is the rubber balls with lots of holes in (not very good description and I don't know what they are called) but you can squeeze a small squeaky latex toy into the middle. They go fairly mad for those and they are not so easy to de-squeak.
