Re: Giving puppy treats

I had the same problem, I stuck to packets stating Puppy treats.

Sorry I'm not much help, I too will be interested to note other forum members advice.

Re: Giving puppy treats

The are very high in fat and i was told by my vet not to givew them. Be careful as they can give them the runs. I dont know if the deture chews may be better. My dog some times has the raw hide chews but some people do not recommend them either.

Re: Giving puppy treats

hi
i get pig's ears from our local wholesale butchers - nice and fresh even still have hair on them (ew) - they are horrible but the dogs love em. You can get dried versions from places like pets @ home as well.

I give mine them from being puppies, they have never had a problem with them. I only give them once of twice a week though not every day

You can also get pig trotters (again horrid but dogs love em)

If you feed raw another great snack is a raw chicken wing .... you can give these from being weaned as well (though dont give cooked as the bones can be dangerous but are ok raw)

Yep the contents of my fridge are always a little wierd ... thank goodness i am not on cribs that would be a surprise for them!!!

Re: Giving puppy treats

I've given them to Meg, well she has had 2 in 5weeks. They are great for teething, I would have thought a lot of the fat would have gone from them when cooked (or whatever they do to them?)

Re: Giving puppy treats

I dont know about the fat coming out when they are cooked as i have found them greasey. I was told no chicken bones as they can become stuck in the throat and can cause stratches on the in side. I supose every one does there own thing and different things are suggested by different people and vets. I still think you cant beat a fresh knuckle from the butcher. If you look on the back of a packet of pork scratchings and read the fat content i nearly had heart faliure as i love them. Surely they wouldnt be that different from the pigs ears would they. Tell me what you think .
