Re: Giving puppy treats
I think pigears are great. My puppies are getting them occasionaly and they love it. It keeps them busy but not for too long depends on the size of the ear. Maya had a pretty small ear and she ate it in 15 mins

Re: Giving puppy treats
Surely regarding a puppy they require FAT in order to grow. A bit like babies/ toddlers their diet should consist of 40% fat.
I have noticed that Puppy treats state not to be fed to puppies under four months, not quite sure why. I have been given Lily (under recommendation from her breeder) puppy bonios since she was 8 weeks old, there has been no adverse side affects. |

Re: Giving puppy treats
bailey and harlie enjoy the occasional pigs ear they also love tripe sticks "they absolutely stink!" we have been giving harlie them since 10wks old and she has been fine we also found the pressed hide bones as a great teething chew. we try to stick to natural treats as much as possible and have given them many things under the reccomended age and as long as theres no upset tums and they are supervised i think its ok for them to have

Re: Giving puppy treats
My 2 get a pigs head to munch on once a month, For the posters worrying about to much fat in pigs ears, if your dog is getting the amount of exercise required than it wont hurt a pup to have a bit of fat on them especially as pups have growth spurts,
I fed Shila up when she was due a growth spurt and she still looked like a cruelty case for a few months, I dont care how much fat etc are in my dogs food as long as they get out twice a day and are happy and healthy then i dont see a problem xx |

Re: Giving puppy treats
My dog gets walked twice a day and i keep a eye on his weight but when he got pancititus they did ask what i gave a treat of which he had had the night he went to the vet., and my answer was pig ear. My vet advised i stopped imediatley because of the fat in them which can trigger the pancititus. I now only give a raw hide bone or a knuckle from the butchers. Surely fat content that is to high is not good for any animal . What do you think or am i being to sensitive due to what happened to my dog within a few hrs of eating a pigs ear. ?
