Toby Scare

We still haven't managed to get the lump of poo off Toby's backside, and this morning it looks like he's in a lot of pain because of it.

We took him into the garden and he strained and strained for at least 5 minutes before running back inside crying. We took him to the shower again and it looked like he was straining so hard it was starting to push the inside, out. I was scared and it was obvious he was in pain, so I told my mum I wanted to take him to the vets.

She took him out to the garden again while I got dressed and then came back up a few minutes later with a big lump of poo (in a bit of kitchen roll) to show me. Typical mum. There was some thread in it, and what looked like a bit of rubber, or plaster.

So it looked like I was really worried over nothing, he's out there again now emptying his bowels...he must have REALLY needed it. Whatever happens now I'm clearing my floor entirely of anything he could eat or swallow, and I'll be watching him like a hawk. He scared me and I'm not letting it happen again.

His bum still looks really sore, so I don't know what to do about that. Will it clear itself up or should I still take him to the vet?

Put some vaseline on Tobys bottom - that will make him feel better.

Re: Toby Scare

Glad hes all sorted, and yes I would put Vaseline on his bot as well, it must be very sore and the Vaseline will make it more comfortable when he needs to go again.
You must make sure there is no string or wool or things like that for him to get at. I know of a cat who almost died after playing with the fringe on the edge of a sofa. As she chewed it she swollowed it. Dont want to scare you but she had to have a major op. as it was tangled in her gut, so be careful.

Re: Toby Scare

He's done his business and has been in the shower and had his bum shampooed

Looks very strange now with a big fluffy front half and a tiny wet bum.

Smile Re: Toby Scare

As Toby grows, if he gets a lot of fur round his bot. it may be a good idea to keep the area clipped, I have known fur to get rally matted there and that can cause a blockage, just a thought.

Re: Toby Scare

Aww bless him! I am so glad you got it all sorted, poor little Toby.

I had a scare with Foxy a few weeks ago, her stomach kept making really odd noises then she would keep on trying to be sick, but all she'd bring up was a liquid. It sounded as though she was trying to bring something up that she shouldn't have swallowed. This went on a good few times. I put her to bed and if she was still like it in the morning she was going to a vet (one that opened on Sundays lol). When I woke up to take her outside I found this long brown gooey stringy thing at the bottom of her crate.... whatever she had swallowed had passed through her during the night! I think it eventually came out of her bottom, not her mouth. Thank God... and she was back to normal. I think it may have been a bit of the fabric/rope/string from one of them tug of war toys? I was at my bf's at the time and left her unattended with him (bad idea) and he left her alone with her tug of war toy. I'm EVEN more cautious now.
