Re: Vets - good and BAD

Gary that just about sums up our veterinary establishments today.

Over the Christmas a cat collapsed whilst in our care (elderly, with medical problems), and I called my clients regular vet to arrange an emergency appointment. It was another vet on call, as their first question was payment. The poor cat was suffering heart failure, and I offered to leave my eternity ring as security. I was desperate by this time!

Being a pet sitter in and out of the car every day, I do not carry credit cards or too much cash! Eventually after half an hour of pleading they decided to see him. He died later that evening!

Re: Vets - good and BAD

i once questioned the vets on my bill saying i thought i was over charged !with that the receptionist made a joke of what vehicle i was driving and that it looks like you can afford it ! that wound me right up! that just goes to show ya they weigh you up and down when you walk in! but what ya gonna do !do you think they become vets because they love cats/dogs!?? ????

Re: Vets - good and BAD

I've been unfortunate to meet vets who don't like cats, dogs or people !!! I'd like to say there are more good than bad, however this has not been my experience. My animals only go to the vet when absolutely necessary.

Re: Vets - good and BAD

Dawny, I totally agree that not all vets are like this, which makes it a whole lot worse when you encounter a vet that IS!

My previous vet was outstanding. When my pet rat had to be euthanised, my vet was actually in surgery, but was finishing up when he heard that I was in the waiting room.

He came straight out to see me, and ushered us into the side room. I was totally beside myself, and his reassurance that I was making the right choice and his understanding and kindness, made me feel a little easier.

I spent 15 years with this practise, and was under the misapprehension that they were all the same - kind and caring.

The point that I am trying to make is that vets should be accountable for their actions. Unfortunately, they are not, hence the exorbitant high prices, and matter of fact attitudes of some.
