Does anyone have a dog with a protein intolerance?
Hi,
I have had problems with my Cairn Terrier's tummy ever since I got her. I has been really bad at times, with severe dihorreah and vomiting. The vet and I have ruled out infections and her organs are functioning normally. We have established that it's a food intolerance and I think it's protein because it gets worse when I tried plain chicken or when she is on normal puppy dry food (Hills or James Wellbeloved). She is on a special Royal Canin wet diet from the vet now and is stable, although I think it is the low protein content of the wet food that is making the difference rather than the brand, and I can't afford it for very long. I was thinking about trying Chappie, because I know it is low protein, but then I would prefer her to be on a dry. I might try the adult dry foods, which are lower in protein. Anyway, I'm waiting for the blood test results to come back from the lab, which will hopefully confirm what has been casuing this, but I just thought I'd see if anyone had been through something similar? Specifically, I am finding it really hard managing without chews to keep her occupied and treats to help with training, so any ideas would be great. Thanks, Isobel and Tabitha |

Re: Does anyone have a dog with a protein intolerance?
If it is an intolerance it could be to one or a number of protein sources, it's highly unlikely. If she's stable on the diet she's getting I would suggest sticking to that until the test results come back and you know what the intolerance is to. Then find a good quality food that has a different protein source. What's the protein source in the food she's on at the moment?

Re: Does anyone have a dog with a protein intolerance?
It's 8%. The ingredients are very vague. It's a special one for digestive issues and it's the only thing that she has managed to keep down and she won't be on it for very long because it's so epensive.
If you look at any wet food they have much lower protein contents than dry. The dry foods are too rich for her. |
