Lump of...

Toby has a lump of poo stuck to his bum, and not a small lump.

Me and mum tried to get it off him, but he cries and squeals when we pull it, so we tried cutting it off and he squeals even louder at that!

I dunno if it's actually just stuck to his bum, or he's stopped mid-poo and now it's stuck to his fur around his bum and he can't poo anymore.
I took him into the garden just now and he squats but nothing happens.

I dunno what to do

Re: Lump of...

I'd suggest that you put some rubber gloves on, wrap Toby in a towel so he can't struggle too much and very gently wet his back end - shower nozzle at minimum water, lukewarm. If you get the poo all wet it should start to disintegrate. Watch out for bits of grass that are part in and part out of his bowels. Don't pull anything out, just clean him up as much as possible. If the poo has dried and caked into the fur you may have to do this a couple of times.

This has happened a few times to Oscar. I agree, use some warm water and wear gloves!! It takes me a couple of tries to clean him up.

Re: Lump of...

Aww poor Toby bless him. It's not nice having poop stuck to your bum (not that I've had that problem lol) but you notice when your pets get a bit of poop stuck there they do act odd, as if it annoys them.

I too would suggest puting water on his bottom, even with the shower head or popping him into some water in the bottom of the bath. The water will soften the poo so it will be easier to remove and wipe away.

I have this problem sometimes with my cats, and they hate being cleaned they go mental which makes it even harder to do. They cry even more when the scissors come out, even though I have never gone near the skin with them or caught them. It's as if they know what's coming.

Re: Lump of...

finn has very long hair around his rear end and if he has runny poo it all gets caught in his rear end. I've generally got a bucket of water, a jug and some gloves and rinse it until it's all out... He doesn't like it one little bit, poor thing, it's very undignified, after all!

changed his food tho, and we havent' had a runny poo problem since.

Sgurr is right, it's very important not to pull if it's only half in/half out...

best of luck!
