Re: DD What purpose ?

I know of someone who has "designer" dogs, they are very small dogs maybe even smaller than a toy breed. She often breeds hers (I don't even think they are planned most of the time) and I know for a fact, she "breeds" them for the money

One of these tiny dogs has had about 5 litters, she is bred with different males (her own dogs) and sometimes maybe inbred.

I know it's terrible, but nothing you could probably say to her would make her stop. She loves the dosh too much.

Re: DD What purpose ?

im not entirely sure what the big problem is with designer dogs, if people like them let them buy them. i dont like poodles but i wouldnt say they were pointless and people shouldnt pay for them. in my opinion it makes no difference at all what the dogs breed is or wether its a cross, as long as there is love between dog and owner does it matter. I have refraied from posting on these topics before as i didnt want to get into an argument but i think its gone on way too much cant it just be accepted that all dogs are dogs no matter what bloody names they are given. all breeds started of in the same way so what is the big thing about people doing it now. many pure breeds no longer serve the purposes they were breed for originally so does that mean they are useless, stupid and should not be bred?? there would be a lot of complaining if i said i thought sled dogs had no purpose because we have cars now. (i dont think that its just an example before someone moans)

Re: DD What purpose ?

lol i agree soap in mouth time lol

once a poodle owner you become addicted

i know of a crossbreeder who is a caring dog owner and breeder her bitch is tested as is the stud she has a cockapoo and loved the traits from both breeds so much in her cockapoo that she now breeds cockapoos now .
her dogs are well adjusted and have fab temperments and i say each to their own.
I do agree that some unscrupulous breeders out there breed and breed and just think of the money as they dont do the health tests and are not willing to pay money out for good care and vet bills.
Any decent breeder will tell you that after all the care put into breeding ,pregnancyand puppies they probably make peanuts on thier pups

Re: DD What purpose ?

Apart from the majority doing it to make money... giving the dog a certain name is just a clever way of marketing... I do honestly think some breeders out there want to create even "better" dogs than we have already... For instance people who have working dogs may think Sprockers are better as they have the good traits of both the cocker and the springer.

I havent really thought about this much. I did used to think aside from the Labradoodle being bred as a non-shedding guide dog, it was all about money. But I was in the park chatting to a woman yesterday who said how lovely my zach was ((proud mum). As usual she asked if he was a Rottie to which I replied "no hes mainly lab with a 1/4 collie". She said, "hmm ive always wanted a rottie - i love their looks - but not sure if I could cope their temperment" (sorry to all u rottie fans out there, but this is what the woman said not me!)... Then she looked at me and said, "you're really lucky there, you've got the looks of a rottie with the kind soft temperment of a Lab".

So this could be seen as a reason?? Not saying I'd ever do it! As obviously you cant pick and choose what goes into the pups! But maybe thats what some "designer dog" breeders are trying to do, create a new, lovely looking, lovely tempered all rounder?

Re: DD What purpose ?

I dont mean to sound as blinkin naive as I have done in that post! I'm just throwing an idea round that could possibly be another reason other than money...

I'd have had to put that woman right! ALL the Rotties I've met have been big softies and 90% of the Labs I've met have been lunatics, I know which I'd prefer. I'd never have a pure bred Lab! D
