If you put it on him in the house or garden and just let him run around for a while with it on, he will get used to it. Don't hold the lead to start with, then when he seems more confident take hold of the leash but don't put pressure on it or you could put him off it. You're supposed to be able to fit two fingers underneath but with it on it's tightest setting I can get four fingers all the way down to my palm under there! I think I'm gonna go looking for a harness haha.

Don't get a harness it will make training him to walk properly on a collar harder!! Get a cheap little collar and spend the rest on some straightners!!! Look at the state of him!!!

Don't get a harness, at puppy school, they say use a collar - well, mine did. Get a smaller collar. They can be quite cheap. First thing I did with Oscar was attach the lead and he ran around playing with it. Then, I started to hold it for a minute at a time. I did this a few times a day. I tried to make it fun and he went to town. He ran around the garden like a loony with it.

I wouldn't get a harness either, he will put his shoulders into it and pull like mad. Think of sled dogs, thats why they are fitted with a harness.
A cousin of mine always uses one on her Rough Collie, would you believe, it has ruined the dogs coat as well.
