Can I be really nosy and ask what breed is Cookie and how old? I'm just curious, I'm paying £33 a month for my toy poodle pup.

Re: Pet insurance

My 2 were insured with M&S with cover up to £7k for the lifetime of the illness. However the premiums doubled within the first year, so I had a look around and have identical cover now with Argos, it cost just under £15 a month each for them.

Re: Pet insurance

Willoughby (15 week old Westie) is with pet-insurance.co.uk. I'm paying £12.50 a month for lifetime cover which covers up to £4000 per MONTH per condition for life. Unlimited conditions, just a high excess fee of £85.

I thought that sounded pretty darn good but I will let you know if they are any good if I ever have to make a claim!

It's kind of an "I'll believe it when I see it" sort of feeling I have right now.

Re: Pet insurance

What I worry about is how much the premiums will go up as th dog gets older - I know some people in the past hae found the premiums go up dramatically when the dog reaches around 9 years of age, but then it's difficult to change insurer because of the age of the dog.
Do all policies increase as the dog gets older?

Does anyone use Kennel Club? I've been with them for a while (They lure you in with the 6 weeks free!) and not really though about. But lately been considering changing..

Re: Pet insurance

Yes - i guess because they become more risk?? I don't know but it makes me cross esp if you haven't made a claim.

I go with Argos PLATINUM cover as its 7,000 per illness in unlimited time. Don't touch the other levels. They are all limited to 1 year.

Underwritten by axa. Its the same policy as sainsburys. These are the next pest thing to pet plan but a WHOLE LOT CHEAPER.

I pay £11 and £12 per month for my dogs. £60 excess. UNLIMITED TIME LIMIT.

Re: Pet insurance

Morning all,

We have two bulldogs and we have always been insured with Pet Plan.

Yes I agree they are great in settling claims with no problems and they settle very promptly, however, the premiums have increased by £10 in one year per dog which is a bloody big increase. Its gone up from £30 a month to just over £40 per dog, thats more than I pay for a high spec Audi!

Saying that it does all depend on your breed of dog, a lot of the Insurance Companies have a list of dog breeds, like the bulldogs, mastiffs etc that they class as high risk so the premiums are higher than a normal quote, plus Pet Plan only insure up to £1500 for death of your beloved pet, when a lot of breeds cost more than this, Bulldogs being one of them.
