Puppy Feeding

Hi all

Well Cookie our adorable Labrador puppy has been with for about 10 days now. I am currently feeding him 4 times a day as he had been by the breeder. I am just after a bit of advise as he only really eats 3 times a day the 4th feed (evening feed) hes not really interested in maybe eats 1 or 2 of the biscuits. Can I cut the feeds down to 3 already or should I still keep offering 4 ?? I'm sure he would enjoy the 3 more.

Thanks again guys for any advice given

Re: Puppy Feeding

If he's not eating it anyway it won't make any difference!

Re: Puppy Feeding

Right from 8 weeks, (when we got him) Oscar was fed 3 meals a day. He doesn't always eat much at every meal.

If he is happy and thriving on the current arrangements then so be it.

Re: Puppy Feeding

we cut ours down to three meals at about 12 weeks old - how old is he and I guess that you are not giving him much in the way of treats in between his meals

Re: Puppy Feeding

Are the meals evenly spaced out? eg 7am.. 12...5pm..10pm..
which meal is it that he wont eat? When ive had lab puppies they have eaten every one of these meals.. but if it is a certain one he doesnt want to eat.. maybe replace it with a bit of raw minced beef instead of his kibble (only a bit) and im sure he will gobble it up

Re: Puppy Feeding

We struggled to get our boy to eat 4 meals so ended up putting him down to 3 sooner than reccomended and he grew up completely fine.

Our girl has recently dropped from 4 meals to 3 and she is really missing it so every dog is different.

You'll soon know what suits your pup the best

Re: Puppy Feeding

Toby is 10 weeks (today) and he's on three meals a day because 4 meals really didn't suit him, he wouldn't eat hardly any of two of them.

As long as he's getting the same amount of food as he was, I don't see why it makes any difference, and now there's always a clean bowl!
