Re: Do u bath ur dog?

I dont bathe my dogs only did it when we got them as they both smelled a bit, but they both hate it , i get a wet cloth and wipe them all over and they get brushed most days, they dont smell at all only if they have been out in rain, then i give them a good wipe down and rub them with a nice clean towel Jazz has a little exema the vet said not to bath him at all just rub the shampoo he gave me into the exema and rinse it , i just changed his food and the exema is clearing lovely.

Re: Do u bath ur dog?

I bath both of mine about once a month with Johnsons no tears - my staffie is not overly fussed but my DDB loves the bath and shower - in fact last week i turned the shower on and dashed into the other room to get a towel came back and who was sat under the shower soaking wet .... little minx she sits watching you in bath or shower and cries to be in..

this also manifests itself as rolling in puddles so she tends to need bathing more often - hmmm maybe she knows this and does it deliberately :-)

Re: Do u bath ur dog?

My border collie had her first bath at over 2 years old, she had had parvo and once she was better she really stunk (this was in the early 80's and she'd been vaccinated against it,) her second bath wasn't really a bath but a swin in a river, lol, she was never bathed apart from the once.

Katie in the 3 years I've had her has had 2 baths, the first cos she was absolutely filthy, the second as she'd been going under a really prickly bush in the garden and had got a few sore patches on her and I'd got some aloe and camomile shampoo that was calming to skin (it actually calmed the scratches she'd got on her underneath). I was going to bath her this year (she generally has 1 bath per year only if she needs it) but she's not been too bad, she's not smelly and hasn't rolled in anything nasty (yet!) so I'll leave her until she really needs one. She did have lots of baths though as a tiny puppy as she caught ringworm and part of the treatment involved using a special shampoo so she was bathed 3 x per week (every other day) for quite a while (luckily it wasn't me that had to bath her, she was with my mum then ) so once a year is quite enough for her now

Lol! yes I know what you mean , my 2 long haired cats can be a nightmare for that! But I haven't had any of those "long hair messy bum" problems with Foxy (yet). Her stools are pretty solid, luckily haven't had any runny/soft poos since I got her! I can imagine the mess it would make lol.

Sometimes she does a poo and gets a bit impatient, she walks off half way through and has the other half of her poo hanging out of her bottom (sorry tmi), then it can stick in her fur lol and she goes nuts!

Re: Do u bath ur dog?

My Baldies get a daily wipe with a baby wipe or Clearasil wipe if they have spots Usually washed monthly or fortnightly depending on shows etc..

Re: Do u bath ur dog?

My dog is quite a long haired breed but most of the time its quite short because we have him clipped. He does get rather smelly and dirty and I think its very essencial for a long haired breed to be bathed because if you think about it, how many of you would walk around on dirty pavements and grass, come home and put your shoes up on the settee or even walk around on your carpet?

My dog loves rolling about on the grass in the garden then trots back indoors and plops himself on the settee and we have to wash our chair covers every couple of weeks because I'd rather not bath Fred so often as he does this.

I have a small problem with the groomer we go to see with him though, she uses a very strong shampoo that when he comes home again, he's scratching like mad, his fur looks very greasy and unnatural, and the smell is so strong its almost like breathing in really deeply in a box of washing powder, so I'd like them to possibly use something less strong or just maybe not as much. I've noticed that when I bath him (I use at the moment, something called Canan or something? Not sure, its usually a Johnsons one but couldn't get hold of it last time!) he's not as strong smelling, he doesn't do any sort of scratching frenzy and his fur is lovely and soft and glossy. I do tend to bath him every 2/3 months because 1, my dad moans that he smells after a while, 2, yea he does like to roll in stuff, and 3, during the summer I bath him just in cool water to cool him down if he's been panting a lot.

But, bathing a dog too much using shampoos is kinda asking for trouble. Its like us washing our hair too often, it damages it and takes away natural oils. Again like others have said it depends entirely on the dog itself also.
