Out to play not to go to toilet!

OK, I have a problem with Madam Molly!

New dog flap etc, she uses it to go out to play but then comes in to Poo and Wee every now and then, just before, not 10 minutes ago, she pooed in her BED!!

Whats that all about???????

Anyone confused:confused:

U need to praise and treat her when she goes outside and makes her business there.

She is 11 weeks old, she had been going out side to do her bits, she goes for a walk too and has done both her bits. For the past few days she has started to do it inside again??? Dont know why

We did give her treats when she did her 1s and 2 outside but not all the time......

U should really treat and praise her everytime she does it outside. 11 weeks is still very young and she might feel confused whats the right thing to do.

Maybe she is insecure doing it outside when she is on her own

Im sure someone else on here will give u more advise soon

She did go outside on her own previously there was no problems at all.

She did go to the vets last night for her 2nd jab and micro chip, was not happy at all.....wonder if this has something to do with it???

Re: Out to play not to go to toilet!

A dog flap? Oh dear, shes gonna end up thinking she can go when and where she pleases.. as it is up to her when she goes out...

i think a dog flap is a bad idea... it means she can go out without telling you, and then she will never tell you when she needs to go

Re: Out to play not to go to toilet!

The thing is with young puppies is if you leave them to go outside on their own, and just hope they are going to relieve themselves... most of the time they wont and you wont even know, because you're not out there to see the evidence. How are you to know if she's actually done anything outside? if you aren't out there watching her? You could think she's done it out there, then she'll come back in to do it indoors.

How is she going to get the right idea that she needs to poo and wee outside if you aren't out there telling her to go and then rewarding her out there at the exact time she does it?

At 11 weeks old you really should still be going out with her at every loo trip to encourage her to go, so then she is actually going in the right place and can get the right idea on where she needs to do it.

I wouldn't keep staying indoors and letting her go outside alone at toilet times. Go out there with her and use a command word for each toilet, once she's learnt the command word she will start to go on command.
When she's done one or the other or even both REWARD and praise lots right there and then and then let her back indoors.

I find it hard to believe that a puppy of this age could "catch on" to toilet training, without the owner going out there and encouraging them to go in the right place for the first few weeks.

Good luck

Mine was very funny after his 2nd jabs. He just wasn't himself.

I agree the dog flap might be confusing. I try and keep the door close to encourage Oscar to ask. Look out for signs that she's going to go inside - sniffing in circles etc. When she's showing signs, take her out.

Toby's been really good going outside, but today and yesterday we've had lots of accidents inside. I think it's my fault because I thought he was doing good I kind of relaxed about it. Slap on the wrists for me!

Oscar's accidents are usually my fault. I was reading - really engrossed in my book! - and didn't see him sniffing in circles and he peed on the new carpet. Ooops! My mother was a bit cross!
