Re: Out to play not to go to toilet!

Have you been showing her to do her business outside? If not then they would just go wherever, especially new dogs. Maybe just keep on bringing her outside until she goes, do it a few times then she'l get used to it.

How are you to know if she's actually done anything outside? if you aren't out there watching her? You could think she's done it out there, then she'll come back in to do it indoors.

How is she going to get the right idea that she needs to poo and wee outside if you aren't out there telling her to go and then rewarding her out there at the exact time she does it?

At 11 weeks old you really should still be going out with her at every loo trip to encourage her to go, so then she is actually going in the right place and can get the right idea on where she needs to do it.

I wouldn't keep staying indoors and letting her go outside alone at toilet times. Go out there with her and use a command word for each toilet, once she's learnt the command word she will start to go on command.
When she's done one or the other or even both REWARD and praise lots right there and then and then let her back indoors.

I find it hard to believe that a puppy of this age could "catch on" to toilet training, without the owner going out there and encouraging them to go in the right place for the first few weeks.

Good luck
excellent advice from kay.

ild take in wat kay has said and in the meantime shut the dog flap shut.

Whats that all about???????

Anyone confused:confused:
I had a similar problem, when we first had our present dog I was doing all the usual things, putting her out when she woke and after meals etc. then after a few weeks the weather was really nice so I started leaving the door to the patio open thinking it would be nice for her to just go in and out when she like.
It was a big mistake, she treated the inside as an extention to the out side.
I should have waited a few weeks until it was firmly fixed in her head that pooing and peeing was only done outside.
If I were you I wouldn't let her use the dog flap for another couple of weeks, not till she has really learned where she has to go.

Re: Out to play not to go to toilet!

we give ours doggy chocolate buttons everytime he and she went to the toilet and it worked as they always go in the garden now and run in when they have been the toilet to tell us they have done a wee/poo in the garden so they deserve a treat ha ha

Re: Out to play not to go to toilet!

Molly has been great since that day, Im putting it down to the Vets, 2nd injection and micro chip, she cried so much when the vet injected them into her.

Thinking about it too she cried when hubbie was getting ready for work too, she did not want to be on her own that day, bless.

She does her bits outside again now....
