Reaction to your dogs

How do members of the public react to your dogs?

It's quite funny with my two,I walked Tyler through town this morning, something I very rarely do but I had to walk Tom up to school to do his summer challenge so thought I'd take Tyler with me.
The reactions I got were I thought amusing, some people directly avoided him and you can see the look of horror on their faces, like he's off another planet or has two heads Some give a smile but avoid him anyway, some stop and give him a fuss.
He walks lovely on a slack lead right at my side,he waits when I tell him too,he is a super dog to have out,yet alot of people seem scared stiff of him,it makes me chuckle when you see some of the reactions

Re: Reaction to your dogs

when i take my shih tzu out everyone wants to cuddle and stroke her,, and most people will stop and stroke my collies, but years ago when we had staffs, people used to cross over, or grab hold of there kids as if to protect them, which was amusing as they loved kids and would never ever hurt them

Re: Reaction to your dogs

when im out with my two, people look either worried or want to fuss them. little kids often go ' cool look at them wolves', lol. what i don't like is that when they are off the lead and spy other dogs, they want to go over and say hello as they are only pups and many people won't give them the chance to do this. i understand having two coming at you is scary but most dogs accept them and those who don't, especially the little ones, will let them know they don't want to say hello, with which my two run for the hills when they are growled at, lol. once i say that they are pups you can see them relax, and no they are not off the lead running riot, this is when another dog walks near us. quite a few large dogs have been aggressive to mine and this has lead to them cautiously approaching others. you can tell the difference between people, those who ask if they can stroke your dogs and understand that dogs want to sniff each other and those who don't want you coming within a mile of their pooch, and expect you to put yours on a lead while theirs is allowed to carry on freely.

Re: Reaction to your dogs

When i walk my staffie with one of my cavs (my staffie walk lovely does not leave my side but my cav does pull abit and barks at strange dogs.....naughty girl) well people are always shocked because the breeds are worlds apart and they always ask what my staffie is like with her and if she picks on herand i am always willing to answer questions ect.
but when i take her on her own OMG i get such a different response people cross over the road or say to the kids come away from that dog ect.........it does get on my nerves at times that people always judge
My friend owns a staffie (boy) and we take them down the woods together and they get on great together they run round like big daft kids.
When i take my cavs out on their own people always want make a fuss of them so i take them early in the morning to avoid people as i get the walk done in half the time.

Re: Reaction to your dogs

Mine is quite funny too...

People always stopping us and trying to cuddle always maya first (she is the star in public). She of course tries to jump on folk, where i try my best to stop her doing this...but the people say "awwh, its ok, i dont mind".
Yeah, but then i say "She has got SHARP claws!"
They just dont listen, she scratches open their jumpers, their arms and they dont mind people are weird
And at the end they give cobi a little cuddle and walk away hehe
I think because he is bigger and doesnt look much like a pup anymore ?

Re: Reaction to your dogs

i think thats the problem with mine as they don't look like pups no more. the other day we came around a corner and there was two dogs with their owners, two old guys, and my two went to go over and i said ' don't chase them, come on' and they came straight away, and me and the hubby heard the guys say' fooking hell, they're good!!', lol was very pleased with me boys for making us and them look so good, but it was probably more to do with the fact the guys were standing there, as my two don't really go up to people that much, especially men, but i did feel proud of them. where i walk them, i have met some lovely people, and if they have dogs, i can't understand why they don't seem to like mine, no dog bothers me unless it becomes aggressive, so if you have a dog, why be funny towards a different breed??? dogs are dogs arn't they???

Re: Reaction to your dogs

If I was out with the dogs people spy the dobie and cross over, but want to stroke the weimy.. we were at Pennington Flash once with one of my sis dogs a wire haired JRT, well I was stood there holding one weimy one dobie and the terrier, you know it was the terrier that was going mental at people and other dogs.. Every one was laughing at her..lol

When we had staffs and say we were at say Warrington show this is one in particular instance, Two separate people kept walking passed my dogs but that close it was starting to upset them.. I commented to other half that they were doing it on purpose as it was the same two and they had terrier themselves.. I believe they were just trying to coax the dogs into loosing there heads..

At another big show I was 7 months preggers and holding our Staffy Joe. well I had to sit down for a min as I was exhausted.. Well a lady walked very close with a JRT and he lunged at it.. he wasn't normally like that. Well the woman launched her little dog swinging it round her off the floor, As soon as I had realised what he was upto I dove off the bench straight on top of him landing on me be belly.. The woman said a few choice words and then left.. He was normally very good with other dogs but must have decided he fancied a taste of that one.. I used to walk him with 7 other dogs.. But after that he started getting a bit choosy about who he wanted to be friends with..
Here he is with my friends puppy.

And here he is with the cats.

Re: Reaction to your dogs

People's perceptions certainly are funny. We used to have a golden cocker spaniel who looked like an angel but was in fact a swine - she absolutely hated strangers and would snap at anyone who came near her. It was amazing the amount of parents who thought it was ok to let their kids run up for a cuddle, without asking, just because she looked cute. We always walked her on a lead, and we were forever telling kids not to touch and asking their parents to make sure their kids always asked before touching any dog.
