Re: Reaction to your dogs

Almost every time I'm out with my dogs someone says of Kira "Gosh, that dog looks just like a fox!" and every single one of them thinks that they're the first person to say it...

In general people smile at them as we walk towards them, as I find myself doing with other people's dogs. You get 50 smiley people for every one disapproving person. Those are good odds, i reckon

Re: Reaction to your dogs

When I go out with Foxy (still a nightmare to get her to walk, so I end up carrying her... tut tut) everyone just goes "awww she's so sweet, like a little baby fox" lol, they want to come see her and ask what breed she is etc.

Re: Reaction to your dogs

I know what you mean about them cuddling one of your dogs before the other.. its really frustrating..

I used to have a tiny toy poodle and when i would walk her and abbie together people always used to come up and cuddle her.. and completely ignore abbie...
its funny cause abbie is always the one who appreciates a good cuddle.. whereas bubbles was happier running around peoples legs and playing 'you cant catch me'
they were both the same age aswell (2).. (bubbles has passed on now).. but she always looked like a puppy i guess thats why

Re: Reaction to your dogs

90% of people smile when they see Toby in my arms, I think it's an involuntary reaction to any puppy but especially because he's the typical blonde fluffy cute type haha. Lots of people stop me and want to cuddle and stroke and ask lots of questions, and say how gorgeous he is.

I can't walk through town with Toby and not smile the whole time, seeing what affect he has on people. I'm like a proud mum, and I love seeing everyone happy. It's nice to know that their trip into town was made a little bit better by meeting Toby. Whenever I see kids staring I kneel down and ask them if they'd like to stroke him, and they ask lots of questions (I always give an apologetic look to their parents, as I'm sure plenty of children have gone home begging for a puppy afterwards).

I just love peoples reactions, I haven't had a negative one yet, but I'm sure it's to be expected with some breeds because people are just plain uneducated. I think all dogs are beautiful in their own way and before I got Toby wanted to cuddle every single one (I was just too shy to ask)!

Re: Reaction to your dogs

Dill is just happy to see anything so he's always got a smile fo rpeople and will always see what others are doing.

I get the odd kid or person asking about him or fussing him but because he gets himself so worked up sometimes it looks like I am holding him back from attacking them so they give him a wide berth but then people notice his tail is wagging and he's settles down as soon as he's within sniffing distance.

I remember once we were walking through the park to the canal and there was a kid laid down on the pavement. Dill being him went over to see what it was all about and the kids's dad lashed out in a series of kicks at Dill. He managed to dodge them ok and then cowered away. I shouted at the guy asking him what he though he was doing. He said he was just protecting his kid. I stated that Dill was sniffing his shoes and if he was to maul the child then he would've started with an easier place. The guy came back saying he didn't care and he should be on a lead. Under no circumstances would i allow my dog off his lead if i didn't not trust him 100%. Anyway, I asked him if I would be in my right then to kick out at a child that was coming to stroke my dog as i thought the child was going to hurt my dog? He called me a name I've never heard my mother use before so he must have been talking to someone else. I walked away.

Re: Reaction to your dogs

When I walk just the greyhounds people either want to fuss them or grab any dogs /kids with them and cross the road put their racing muzzles on and no one comes near.

If I walk the greyhounds with hthe whippets I get

Ahhhhhh look mum dad and babies

12 months ago we had a friends italian greyhound staying with us and we got some really strange looks then

If you walk the setter people cross the road to fuss her and to tell us they had one x number of years ago or to say they would really like on. Once and elderly gentleman asked if he could have a pup of her when we bred a litter of her she was only 6 months at the time and even if he was alive he certainly wouldn't have coped with a crazy setter pup. He was walking with 2 sticks then and I most certainly would not sell one to him even if I did breed of Zoe

Re: Reaction to your dogs

Unfotunately this day and age, people are far too quick to judge, not just dog breeds but each other also! My saying is "Never judge a book by its cover" You just cant tell what an animal or person is going to be like by just taking one look at them and making your mind up in an instant!
Again it is down to the media scaremongaring with some breeds which has caused people to cross over to the other side of the path to ignore these dogs! It is wrong!

I always say hello to the owner 1st and then ask if it's ok to say hi to the dog/s, like i'm trying to train ozzie to stop jumping up people when sitting outside shops, which he does quite nicely now, they insist on coming up, oh he is so sweet! Its not easy trying to handle him, he weighs in at 3stone now and still growing!

So please always stop and ask owners 1st, it may stop you being bitten!

Another thing that annoys me (yep ya have got me going now c ) is when out on a walk some folk feel the need to give titbits wivout asking WTF is there problem, they should ask first in case your dog is allergic to what they have silly people lol. There think i've finished now!
And I love staffies, well any dog's really thanks for listening hehe.

Re: Reaction to your dogs

When me and my mate take Tia and George out everyone with a dog crosses over or picks there dog up its so stupid or they pull them back and say oh he got attact when he was a pup by 2 staffs ( yer right) why would more than one person say the same thing. most of the time Alfie is with us i think thats a good bit of advertising staffy with chihuahua lol. Alfie is the one to watch out for lol.
