Keeping A Dog Outside Is It Cruel ?

Mom Would Like To Keep Jas Outside When We Get Our New House , It Has An Acre And A Half Of Garden And A Pool ( With Doggy Steps Not A Ladder ) ( And There Will Be NO Chemicals Put In The Pool Just A Very Expensive Filter .. ) Theres A Balcony Running All The Way Around The Front Of The House And He Will Be Allowed In My Bedroom ( It Has A Door On The Balcony ) And At Night He Will Be Kept On The Balcony ( Balcony Gate Shut ) And There Is A Secure Fence Around The Whole Garden , Also We Will Get A Puppy . Is This Cruel ? I Mean We Will Be Outside Most Of The Time , I Will Walk Him Twice A Day As Usual .. He Gets Fed , Has Water , He Can Paddle In The Pool , He Will Have Toys .. If He Wants He Can Sleep In My Bedroom .. ( Same With The Puppy .. ) He Will Still Get Attention And Be Loved , The Main Reason Is Because Mom Wants To Have ALl New Furniture And Stuff Like That And His Hair With Him Shedding .. Dont Get This Wronge Please My Mom LOVES Jasper ( And Jasper Loves Mom More Than Me !!! )

Its Just He Has Been A House Dog All His Life Is It Cruel To Change That ?

Add: I Mean We Still Would Go Out Everyweeked For Picnics With Jasper ( And Our Puppy ) And Go To The Beach And Let Them Have A Run ..

Add Again : And Like We Eat Our Breakfast Out On The Balcony And Our Lunch And Tea .. We Will Be Outside Most Of The Time .. And When Im On My Computer Or Whatever Jasper Can If He Wishes Come Into My Bedroom ..

Re: Keeping A Dog Outside Is It Cruel ?

As long as he is not out there alone he should be ok, and providing as you said secure.

I wouldnt leave him out there alone though or he might get lonely

Re: Keeping A Dog Outside Is It Cruel ?

as long as he has the best warm wether proof housing and is still socialised wiv the family, people and other animals i cant see the problem he will get used to it, he maywell moan for abit but he will get ova it, eventually

i prefer meself to keep pets indoors...altho i must admit it would be handy to ave kennells out back wen they get on me nerves lol...so i can ave a break and also wen i do me cleaning coz i ave 4 bullys following me around the house getting in the way pmsl.

Re: Keeping A Dog Outside Is It Cruel ?

I dont think its cruel but to keep a dog outside in the day providing he gets everything he needs (unless he is really distressed by it)..
but i dont think keeping a dog outside in the night is fair... they are pack animals and like to be in the den as much as people.. i suggest getting a big crate and putting it somewhere in the house so that he can sleep in it at night without ruining the sofa

Re: Keeping A Dog Outside Is It Cruel ?

Its a tuff one i use to kennel my dog at a boy friends with his dogs and he was a house dog as its a move and can come in your room don't think this will be a problem just make sure you have a draft free warm kennel for winter my friend has just moved to a smaller house and her dogs nolonger come in the house they have the garage with a heater in winter and warm beds plus the run of her garden and they are happy with this, really just depends on your dog you'll just have to try and see.
Getting a pal seems a good idea as they are pack animals.
Just remember they still need the same walks etc as before keep routie the same then its only the area thats different
Oh might want coat in winter too
Good luck

Re: Keeping A Dog Outside Is It Cruel ?

He Wont Be Kept In A Kennel He Will Have The Free Roam Of The Garden And The Whole Front Balcony ( It Has A Roof Over It And We Eat There Every Meal Other Than In The Winter Time ) , He Will Go In My Bedroom At Night Or If He Wants He Will Stay On The Balcony And Occasionally He Will Be Allowed In On Special Occasions ( Birthdays And Christmas Times Like That .. And Obviously When Its Cold And Wet In The Winter ) And Like I Said We Will Be Outside In The Garden With Him Most Of The Time Anyway And At Night He Will Be With Me In My Room , And Like I Said We Will Still Take Him To The BEach On The Weekends .. Its Just Mom Would Like In The 'Nice Weather' Months For Him To Stay Out Of The House ( But He Is Always Allowed In My Room ) , She Will Still Play With Him And Everything .. And When Its Really Cold And Wet Obviously She Would Let Him In

'Just remember they still need the same walks etc as before keep routie the same then its only the area thats different'

Ofcourse I Mean I Think He Will Prefer It Anyway .. He Will Have A Friend And A Pool He Can Swim In .. Everything The Only Difference Is Instead Of Him Lying About The House Chewing A Bone He Is Just Lieing About On The Cool Balcony Tiles Chewin A Bone And Like I Said He Will Be Allowed In My Bedroom But In The Warmer Summer Months I Think He Will Prefer To Sleep On The Cool Tiles On The Balcony

( Same Goes With The Puppy )

Re: Keeping A Dog Outside Is It Cruel ?

lol Aww Okay Its Just Such A Change ... Like Thinking About It I Wont Be Able To Hide Behinde Him When We Watch A Scary Movie In The Living Room Any More lol And Just General Little Things But Yeh He Will Still Sleep On The End Of My Bed And Everything .. And I Can Watch Movies On My Laptop And Hide Behinde Him

I Just Asked Mom What About Him And The Pup In The Winter Months , She Said We Might Have Like A Conservatory With A Few Sofas And A TV - Pretty Simple And It Will Be The 'Dog Room' They Can Sleep In There At Night ( All Year Round ) And In The Day When Its Cold And Wet ( There Will Be A Doggy Door .. ) .. Aww I Think Im Thinking Too Hard .. o
