Question help talking hubby round 2 new puppy

Hi,
I'm new on this so you'll have to put up with me!!
I really need some help i have a lab who is 10yrs and a collie who is 3yrs soon. My problem is my husband who lost his old dog in may, i nursed her, fed her, walked her and carried her. Now i have found that the breeder of my collie, who has his half sister is due a litter now in just over a week and i would love a puppy from this litter but he is saying no, he just keeps saying "we don't live on a farm" but one lady i know has a smaller house then ours and has 9 collies (very understanding husband lol).
I feed, walk, take to vets and pay for my dogs plus clean up he leaves the house at 7.30 and will not be back untill at least 8pm the dogs are with me all day they run down at the horses all morning and have an hour walk at night and a few short walks in the day we also have a kennel for wet dogs in winter. I know the real reason is because of loosing jess but i might not get a chance for another puppy this good i know i'm being selfish, just real want one of the puppies.
Anyway any tips on helping me get one would be fab i'm not as horrid as i sound really.

Bec

Re: help talking hubby round 2 new puppy

Believe me I know just how you feel. My GOG (Grumpy Old Git) is the same, all I get from him is, " You have one dog why do you need another ?" I tell him if he doesn't understand then I wouldn't be able to explain it to him.
What I do is keep mentioning it in passing , maybe when talking to my kids when they visit, like "I'm thinking of getting a puppy by the way" Its a form of brainwashing I think because it appears to have worked, we are off to the NAC, Stonleigh on Friday for a day out at the Birmingham Canine Association Show, LOL
Watch this space.

Re: help talking hubby round 2 new puppy

I begged my parents for months to get a puppy, but I'm not in the same situation as you. I didn't have any dogs already so it would be the only dog in the household. I basically tried to prove that I was responsible enough and it eventually got through to them.

Also dragging up puppy websites everyday to show my mum all the litters and pointing out every dog we saw when we were out, plus talking non stop about puppies and dogs and training and all sorts.

I did say to my mum at one point when I was getting fed up of them saying no "What would you do if I just brought a puppy home?" and she said "Well secretly I'd love it but don't tell your father.".

Good luck!

Re: help talking hubby round 2 new puppy

I just went out and bought our first puppy. I told him I was going to see a litter with my sister and that I had enough money for a deposit. When I got back he saiid "well are we having a boy or a girl?" told him a boy in a few weeks and even though he told everyone he was pi$$ed off I knew he was excited. He actually fell in love with our boy quicker than I did .

I asked to have another about 2 months of getting our boy and he told me to wait till his first birthday. As soon as his first birthday came I asked again and he said "whats it matter what I say, you'll only go out and get one anyway" I got straight in contact with a breeder and we bought our girl home about 12 weeks later

I think I'd struggle to get him to agree to a 3rd though.

Good luck

Re: help talking hubby round 2 new puppy

I think he works very long hours and you support him to do this so its a bit of give and take here. My hubby would not have dogs if i wasn't here but i kind of made it clear that I am 'me' and i come with 'dogs'. No Options on that! If you used to have three I can't see why you can't go back to three. Just get the dog. He can't object if you are doing all of the work!!

Re: help talking hubby round 2 new puppy

Sounds like a plan will get some pics of puppies when they are born and just put the pics in his lunch box daily with my new pup high lighted lol then just bring it home.
He married me knowing i was animal mad, so tuff. I did that with the cat he said do what you want you always do and it got my back up so i did, and he plays with it all the time (after two days not really talking)
At least its not just me men are so grumpy only married him as he was so good about dogs etc just welcomed them in to his home no questions, they say men change when you get married lol

Re: help talking hubby round 2 new puppy

You've got it!!

ps. Hints don't work with mine - they only wind him up and get him cross. I have to do what i think and work hard to prove it will work after. Husbands get more stubborn with time. They learn to say no to my own puppy eyes!!! Strategic planning comes into action the longer you are married!!!!!
