Re: Eating poo

Mine used to eat his own poo too, but he grew out of it. Horse poo was quite exciting as well and the cat litter tray, well, he assumed that was just a nice tray of nibblies... He probably stopped around 7-8 months.

Donna, i thought for a second you were saying your mother-in-law ate poo until i read the sentence again.....

Re: Eating poo

Almost forgot he used to roll in his own poo too... however he quickly learned to associate this action with being dumped in the much loathed bath and shampoo-ed, so the rolling in it stopped before the eating it

This is a good point. A healthy dog eating his own poo will do no harm, but a dog eating another dogs, or other animals, could result in a bacterial or viral infection.

Re: Eating poo

My dog Duke as a puppy it was difficult keeping him out of the cat litter, I had to keep it on stairs and keep the safety gate closed but so far as I am aware he didn't eat his own poo.

Re: Eating poo

Like I said in my first post, Foxy doesn't eat her own poo, or anyone elses for that matter! thank God.

But, she does try and eat the cat litter... which I freak out about. Trying to keep her away from it is a nightmare sometimes

Re: Eating poo

I wonder if some breeds of dogs are more prone to this than others, Diesel never has nor has Halle, Luna does but not her own, I have to watch her cos she follows diesel waiting for him & if I dont get there 1st its gone before I can grab it while its still warm too yuk

Harley was the same too but only off diesel too, but the worse one for it was my old lab rio, she was a turd connoisseur, we used to walk looking out for turds, the only one she'd eat at home was off Zeus, but out on a walk, rabbit, horse, sheep deer cow would all be on the menu & if we saw her at one & yelled she'd grab a big mouth full & run gobbling it down as fast as she could & if she found fox crap or a dead bird/rabbit etc then she'd roll in it YUK!!!

She made a great fuss of my ex mother in law one day kissing & licking her I stood & said nothing only 15 minutes before she'd been munching on a cow turd frizbee pmsl well revenge is sweet she was always an old dragon when I was married to her idiot son

Re: Eating poo

I had a golden retriever who ate poo everyday. We try the stuff from the vet. It had to go into each dogs dinner. It was supposed to make the poo taste bad(as if it didn't already). He still thought it was great! I then tried putting cayenne pepper or hot sauce on top to see if he would still eat it. Oh boy! He thought wow international poo today!! I gave up after that. Just tried to pick them up daily. Make sure you don't eat some fudge the same time you catch them eating poo!
