Dobermans were bred from several breeds including the Greyhound, German pinscher, Rotti, Manchester terrier & Beauceron (sp) and maybe more. They were developed by Herr Dobermann who was a tax collector (boo) who apparrently got a bit tired of getting robbed, so wanted a bit of protection in the shape of these dogs.

The Bullmastiff was crossed from a Bulldog & an english mastiff (not surprisingly) as a game keepers dog that was agile enough to catch poachers, and heavy and strong enough to hold them until the GK arrived.
