Talking Update on Meg

Well it's been a bloody stressful few weeks. We've been fully booked and trying our best to weed out Meg's problems at the same time.

We had a blood covered kitchen the other day after another dog jumped on her back and sank her teeth into Meg's butt, obviously Meg wasn't happy with this and turned around and ripped a few chunks out the other dog, mainly her ears which needed stapling up at the vets. The OH couldn't keep them apart and by the time I came in from the garden Meg had clamped onto the other dog and wasn't letting go, trying to split them I managed to get bitten. The two dogs are being kept seperate now as neither are letting it lie.

She's also had a few moments with the cat's, not attacked them but stood and barked at them.

And she's had a few disagreements with Trinny, only minor falling outs seemingly over their pack positions, suppose this one is to be expected and hopefully they can sort it out without blood being spilt.

On the positive side, she's been cuddled on the sofa with the cats numerous times, and has tolerated their batting and rubbing against her, she's getting on with Jayjay like a house on fire and is getting better at accepting new comers. Her stitches have healed and her bald patches are finally growing back!

Wow you are having a right time of it but it sounds like you are getting there albeit slowly.

Good on you both taking her on and encouraging/developing her social skills.

Great job.

Re: Update on Meg

Foot's getting better; without going to A&E!

Bite was only minor but bled a lot when it happened, it was from the other dog, makes me wonder why I bothered getting Meg off her! Also got a few "holes" from trying to prise her jaw open! Never again!

We're dead proud of her, she could have been a lot worse after all she's been through.

Haha yeah, we have had some lengthly discussion's about what's best for her. We did consider putting her up for a new home on the basis that she might be happier as an only dog but she loves playing with our three, mainly Jayjay and not so much Trinny but she does enjoy herself and we love her to bits, it would be heartbreaking. We even considered ceasing the business and me getting a "real" job so there weren't new dogs coming in and out but then our lot wouldn't be happy and hopefully she will get used to it. It's been REALLY stressful but it's worth it.

Re: Update on Meg

i don't reckon you'd be happy in a "real" job AJ you'd be worryin to much over your lot given time meg will maybe learn from your others that its fun to have other dogs comin in or at least she'll be able to tolerate them. she might still be feelin a bit insecure after all she's been through poor girlie

Re: Update on Meg

Alan, not sure of the full story here as not been on the forum lately due to overwork.

Hope you have your tetanus jabs up to date. The only bites I have suffered in the years I have been working with animals is from a cat. Needless to say she was named Mad Maddie Apparently, she didn't even like her owners much!

Hope all is well now.
