Toby's tag just came in the post today, with name and address on! It's so cute. I can't wait til he comes home.

I feel really strange looking at it, I've wanted a puppy for so long and until now it hadn't really felt real that I'm actually getting one! But seeing the tag made it really sink in..I'm getting a puppy! And his name is Toby and it's etched into metal, it can't be undone! Now I'm more excited than ever!

We're off camping for the weekend and picking him up on the way home! Just two more days to wait!

I know the collar tag is a legal requirement, but is microchipping? And if it's not would you recommend doing it or is it a bit pointless?

No microchipping isn't a legal requirement....... yet! I would definitely get it done, it isn't too big of a deal for a puppy having it done and isn't very expensive, but just think of the peace of mind you would have if god forbid he ran away or was stolen and his tag fell off, at least he could be scanned and returned home to you as quickly as possible.

I'd definately get him microchipped as a collar can be taken off or lost.

Hiya - microchipping is not a legal requirement, but I would strongly recommmend that you have Toby microchipped. All my animals are microchipped - if they are stolen or lost, the microchip can be invaluable.

both my dogs are microchipped...its not legal yet..but i thought it was mentioned it will be in 2010...but i'm not sure if thats right

Microchipping will become compulsary in 2010 I believe?

All my dogs and cats are done and I'd recommend it to everyone. There was yet another story in our local paper this week telling of a dog reunited with owner all thanks to the microchip.

Why is an collar tag legal requirement?
My dogs have a collar tag with just saying on it : "I have an microchip, please scan me."

U shouldnt put the dogs name on the tag as incase he gets stolen that would make things easier for the burglar.

I didnt put adress on it either as the burglar would know where i live and that my dog is not there to protect the house and me

I bet the next couple of days can't go quick enough
