Re: Has anyone seen this site before

I am also a member of that site, recently joined, as i have on here.

I think the reasoning behind the only rehoming to breed specific rescues is that they are more able to asses the dog & help in its rehoming. there are that many dogs around that are in this desperate situation. i dont know how we can call ourselves a nation of animal lovers.

i am the Northern coordinator for the The Japanese akita rescue Trust ( JAWT) and also am active member of Friends of akitas, it is unbelievable the many dogs that we come across that are in a PTS situation. unfortunately every one can not be saved due to lack of funds.

Like many others up untill around 6 months ago i didnt believe they still put dogs to sleep - i had a very rude awakening, this happens on a daily basis if the pounds can not find a place for them.

i dont believe it is blackmail at all, it is for the safety of the prospective owner. imagine the flack they would get if a poundy dog went straight into a home & bit a child????

i have in the past 6 months fostered 3 dogs, 2 of them in PTS situations. i have one now on Foster who was rescued from a puppy farming environment. she was under weight flea ridden & had ticks, not to mention pyometra and could have died. the vet reckons she could have had up to 10 litters she is around 5 years old. JAWT paid for her to be spayed & she is recovering at home with me and we will begin to look for her new home now that she has gained trust.

Re: Has anyone seen this site before

I found this forum while looking for boards to post the dogs from Rochdale Dog Rescue, yes they are pound dogs but in 3 years we have saved every dog, none has been pts unless the Dog Warden thought they were too aggressive to rehome.

Since the Police stopped taking stray dogs, they had a contract with a different kennels, the amound of dogs we have in has snowballed but we still haven't lost a dog.

We are very proud of our record.

We desperately need help with finding these dogs places, we don't rehome direct from the pound but do have a few kennels in a boarding kennels who will assess our dogs, we can then rehome them ourselves.

We don't get much money through adoption fees because most go to other rescues and they get the adoption fees. Any in boarding gets neutered and vaccinated at our expense before going to other rescues.

We also desperately need transporters to move these dogs all over the country. At the moment we are depending on a handful of people, fuel costs are not a problem, we will reinbuse anyone for fuel costs.

I have 2 of these dogs myself, Tilly and Ellie, I have never had a bad dog while transporting and from the reports from other transporters neither have they. The pound these dogs come from work with the dogs while they are there to help them get another start.

I have a post up asking for a fosterer for Soldier, he is hurting himself in the kennels and we need to get him into a home. If anyone can foster Soldier, the reports about him are good, please contact me.

Althought the dogs have a pts date on, they are pound dogs and under the care of the Dog Wardens at the moment, when their time is up someone from RDR picks them up from the pound, if we didn't they would be pts.

Please help if you can to save these dogs.
