Exclamation "Hope you are

Hi all new to the forums and I have posted on the intro section.

I am in love with bulldogs and have been for years I am doing lots and lots of reseach before committing and wanted to know from any owners and breeders what the real health concerns of this breed of dog there are.

Reason I ask is Because when I talk to people about British Bulldogs the first thing they say is "hope you can afford all the vet ops, as they have breathing problems".

From the research I have done this is or can be a problem but mostley rsuts in the Bulldog snoring???

HELP PLEASE !!

Keith

Re: "Hope you are

Hi and welcome to the forum.
It's lovely to come across people who are doing their homework before buying a puppy.
I do hope someone with knowledge comes along soon to help you

Re: "Hope you are

The best bit of advice I can give you is save your money for a WELL BRED puppy from a good show kennel. Very few show kennel bred puppies have breathing problems. It tends to be the pet bred bullies that have the breathing problems due to poor breeding. They seem to choose the flattest faces with the broadest chests as they believe that this is what a bulldog should look like. However, a successful show breeder will only breed from dogs that look like they should. If that makes sense. I can reccommend you some showkennels if you are interested?

Yeah thanks very interested but it wont be for nearly a year by time I can save for a bulldog.
But if you would post some links please it would be much appreciated.
Also when I have seen puppies for sale and they have KC reg next to the ad does this mean they are from a good show kennel ???

Thanks
Keith

No, cr@p bred can still be KC reg. I'll PM you a list of good bully breeders. You might need to put your name on the waiting list and be prepared to wait for a year. The best breeders have long waiting lists. But at least you have a year to save up then.

Ok thanks for your help as the breathing problems was what I was more worried about than anything really.
