Cats

Hello again,

Toby comes home on Sunday (5 days and counting) but I'm a bit worried about our family cats. We have three of them and I'm not sure how they'll react to the new bundle of energy that's about to come and take over the household.

I'm sure they'll be ok, in fact they'll probably make sure Toby knows his place in the pecking order! But was just wondering if anyone had introduced a puppy to cats before and are there any ways to make it go smoother?

Thanks,

Rosie x

Re: Cats

Hi glad someone else is up. If you havea puppy I'm sure it will go fine. My
cats tolerate puppies but are not as tolerant when they are 6 to 9 months old. Hope all goes well for you...Jill

Re: Cats

We purchased a 9 week old cocker spaniel, last Sat 9th Aug she came home. I have a cat called George who has always been number 1 in our house! He was not impressed at first, spat and hissed at Molly but that was it. I put another cat flat in the garage side door where George could go to get out of the way if he wanted to, he also has a cat flat in the kitchen door.

Anyway, this week George has been waiting for me coming home from work and I have been lifting him in the house to the garage to be fed, then I lift him to the stairs where he goes up to sleep on the landing (open stairway) in the front room.

Well last night George got brave and came into the front room walking....and sat on the settee staring at Molly who was on the floor, Molly just wagged her tail!

George stayed there then all night and went to sleep, it will take time especially with 3 cats but in the end they will all be best friends.

Keep up up to date of how they are getting on.

Re: Cats

my cats are still scared of my puppies. Calie is hissing and spitting and slapping them if they come near. But Hugo let's them smell him and doesn't his. I would never let them unsupervised and make sure the dog doesn't chase the cats.
It will take some time but I'm sure it will work out

Re: Cats

I have 2 indoor cats and they just don't want to accept Foxy my 16 week old pup.

Cleo isn't as bad, but still isn't having any of it. Bailey is either scared of her or I dunno. He hisses really bad (he never hisses normally).

My cats are 2 years old and I have never heard Bailey hiss once in the 2 years I have had them, until I got Foxy.

I have to keep them apart (I know I shouldn't because they are going to have to get used to each other at some point). But I am literally terrified of what damage my cats could cause to Foxy because they don't like her or are scared of her. They hiss, but as soon as they do that I pick Foxy up and take her away. What would happen if I was to just leave them to get on with it? I dread to even think of the damage they could cause. After all, Cleo is 12+ lbs and Bailey 18+lbs and my puppy is 2.5lbs... hmm (

Foxy isn't frightened of them at all! She just wants to run upto them and play! which I can't and wont let happen because as soon as she goes charging towards them they freak out. If I was to let her go upto them like she wants to what on earth would happen? At the moment life is difficult in my house because of this. Either constantly keeping an eye on the cats or the dog. No one can have complete free run and it's just a nightmare to be honest. Needs to be sorted SOON.
