Re: vet bills

I had a similar thing with my dog. He cut himself on barbed wire and had to go under anaesthetic to be stitched up (this cost £400). After 2 weeks I was told to go back to have the stitches out, got him home afterwards and within an hour the wound burst open so I took him straight back and they stitched it back up there and then with only a local anaesthetic plus gave him an injection to stop infection - all free of charge. I think my vets are pretty good but do think it is silly that they will only do things under general when I know my dog could of been stitched under local in the first place, he is so placid and will let you do anything to him (no brain, no feeling lol)

Re: vet bills

I would imagine they could just staple the wound with a local or no anaestheitc?

When Milo injures himself they always want to put him under and stitch him up but we always tell them to put staples in without anaesthetic as it's not necessary.

Re: vet bills

Try and get your hands on some Wound Glue, its great stuff, no stitching required has iodine in it so also heals the wound quicker

That seems a very high charge, I would not pay again and would put your views in writing explaining why you are not satisfied. My corgi had growths in her mammary glands and had blood tests, x-rays, and an operation to remove them with the follow up medication and I was charged £400. I just had my vet out to a coughing pony and had an injection and medication for £71.00. Perhaps things are cheaper in Wales but that bill does seem excessive.

YOu probably use the same vets as me and they are extremely reasonable as I have had two very delicate bone breaks taken there and neither were extortionate

Re: vet bills

Sorry can't help with the legalities, but feel (sadly) that the vets are maybe within their rights. I would question though if there were enough stitches in the wound initially as I would not have expect then the have opened so easily. How long have the stitches been in by the way?
regards
Sue

Don't know if you have any legal rights but I would be saying something to them along the lines of, "If there is another charge you can take it out of the money you will have to pay me when I sue you for my pet harming herself on your slippy floor"
