Smile Thinking of adopting a new puppy. Help!

Hi everyone

Im new to the site so apologies if this has already been discussed.

Basically, Im thinking of adopting a new puppy and dont know where to start! I live in a medium sized detached house with a good sized backgarden.

Both myself and my boyfriend work 8 hours a day. However, our garage opens up into our backgarden so we could convert the garage into a 'den' for it so it has the advantages of being both outside and inside all day. I also know a good dog walker so the dog would be able to go for a walk every day. I have no problem with it being in the house all day either, but it is obviously better if it has the option of being in or out.

I am also lucky to have an excellent boss who would let me bring the dog to work for a few days a week, depending on my diary. But, the dog cant be too boisterous.

I have the time to take off to help ease the puppy in and give it the time for training. Ive always grown up with dogs and Im used to taking them for walks twice a day.

Ideally, I would like a small dog (perhaps a Beagle?). I would love to adopt a abandoned dog from a kennel but I know the dangers of not knowing the owner, breed and history of the dog can be a big gamble.

Im basically lost and dont know what is the best thing to do, so some help would be much appreciated!

Re: Thinking of adopting a new puppy. Help!

I would get in touch with local rescue kennels and have a chat with those.

A beagle could well suit your lifestyle, or maybe a staffy. Rescues are bursting with staffies.

You may find some centres will not rehome to you due to the dog being alone in theday, but if you can get a dog walker or dog sitter to spend some time with it, you shouldn't have a problem.

Re: Thinking of adopting a new puppy. Help!

The only problem I could foresee you having with a beagle is that they are highly intelligent dogs, bred to work. They are exceptionally good escape artists, and generally are not content to laze around to much.
I would speak to your local rescues.
Good luck

Thanks, I hadnt considered getting advice from a rescue centre. I have spoken to my boss and he has said I can bring the dog into work everyday with me, he also has a dog so they can keep each other company every day.

Re: Thinking of adopting a new puppy. Help!

I have a Border Terrier pup and he is BRILL... Great with kids, active but not to the point of having to walk him 300 times a day. I couldn't recommend a nicer dog
