The Dog Talk Project

Greetings,

You are invited to participate in a new survey research project that studies the relationships between people and their dogs. The Dog Talk Project (The DogTalk Project - Home) is a web-based system of surveys that studies a wide range of dog-related topics, including dog owners’ daily activities and routines, dog health care practices, behavior and training, breed preferences and attitudes, and nutrition and feeding practices.

We currently are collecting data with five surveys (see list below). Results are posted for all to view on our “Results Pages” and are updated regularly. Participants include dog sports enthusiasts, professional trainers and behaviorists, veterinarians, veterinary technicians, breeders, shelter and rescue professionals, dog sitters/walkers, and owners who simply love spending time with their canine companions!

Participation is free and is completely voluntary. Please feel welcome to visit the Dog Talk Project to learn more about this project (The DogTalk Project - Home) and to share your dog-related experiences and knowledge with others!

Linda Case
Administrator, The Dog Talk Project (admin@dogtalkproject.com)

CURRENT SURVEYS:
"About You" and "About Your Dog(s)"
"Breed Preferences: Why we love the dogs we do"
"The 10 Most Common Behavior Problems in Dogs"
"The Five Most Important Health Care Practices of Dog Owners"

COMING SOON! “Living with Multiple Dogs”, and “What’s for Dinner: Nutrition and Feeding Practices”

Re: The Dog Talk Project

It would be good if you did more in depth surveys, eg: a questionnaire to people who have dogs that have had cruciate problems to see if there is any common denominator
How many people have taken part in each survey to come up with your figures?

I just logged in but the surveys I found interesting - dogs daily life and the relationship are already closed... pity...

Re: The Dog Talk Project

Hello - Our apologies for you missing two of our surveys! We have had to start to close some of the surveys for analysis and inclusion in upcoming articles and book chapters. Depending on the survey, we will try to keep surveys open for at least 4 months and attempt to collect at least 500 or more respondents before closing. Our "Day in the Life" survey has almost 1000 participants, so we needed to close it for analysis and writing (again, so sorry to miss you - we hate to leave anyone out!). If it is any consolation, we will have a new survey that examines nutrition and feeding practices up soon - we would love to have you participate! We also have a general health care survey and a general behavior problems survey that are both still collecting data, so please feel welcome to complete those! (In response to the previous member's note - we are going to be offering more detailed surveys. Our initial round are intentionally broad in scope so that we can build a large number of participants and learn more about what types of topics to tackle in future surveys.)

Re: The Dog Talk Project

Great - Thanks for participating, Carla! We are downloading data this week so will be doing some analysis and posting new results, and also new photos of member's dogs. (If you would like to post photos, just go to our Facebook page - we use Dog Talk member's dogs photos to illustrate our results throughout the site!)
