Angry, guilty and upset

After having a really good week with Alfies leg last week, and thinking we were getting to the end of the worrying period after his cruciate operation, we have had a set back
I'm angry because of the stupid stupid woman and her efing Collies too damn busy on her mobile phone to realise that her dogs were pestering mine
Guilty because I allowed Alfie to say hello and then get snapped at, causing him to take evasive action which twisted his leg.
Upset because things had been going so well and now we have had two days of him suffering.
His joint has swollen up and hurts him enough for me to have to give him Metacam this morning

So sorry to hear that rona!

Im sure it will be fine, only a minor setback. Dont blame yourself how were you to know they would snap at alfie? Its that the stupid womans fault for not keeping control of her dogs.

Re: Angry, guilty and upset

I hope you told her the seriousness of her not watching her dogs properly

What a silly woman, I hope she realises and will pay more attention in future!

Hopefully it wont have sent you very far back and it will just be for a short time

Its not your fault, as much as you might want to you can't wrap him in cotton wool its that bloomin' woman's fault for not having better control over her dogs.

I was too worried about Alf and getting him away to bother about the stupid owner, even after her dog had snapped at Alf she let them pester him.
I do feel it's partly my fault because I let him greet them at a distance on his extend. Up until then, all greetings with other dogs have been done on a very short lead

But you have to do things like let him greet further away on his extendy to test the waters, you just found out its probably not worth letting him do that for a bit longer still. He seems to have been coming on so well that it was only a matter of time before there was a little set back, hopefully this will be the only one!

If you had him on a short lead, who's to say that the dogs still wouldn't have gone and snapped at him before you could get in the way? I think Alfie is a very lucky boy that you care so much and have been so careful, I bet a lot would have got impatient and had more set backs than you have by now!

Re: Angry, guilty and upset

I am really sorry to hear this, it is so easy to get a set back. You have done incredibly well so far, Tinsley is right, Alf has had the best care and you shouldn't feel guilty. These things happen and they remind you at what stage Alf is at and now you know meeting dogs he doesn't know raises unpredictable occurrences which for now will have to be avoided.
Hopefully it doesn't take you both long to get back to the stage you were a couple of days ago. I really understand the anger, maybe a vest saying recovering dog please keep your dogs under control or... I am on my leash you pay the vet bills

Re: Angry, guilty and upset

I agree with Tinsley, you have been so careful and patient... many owners would have left him to his own devices by now. Really hoping this is only a minor set back and he is better soon, poor lad.

I think you are very admirable for the time, effort and patience you have shown Alfie.... please don't beat yourself up over it.
