Poppie's story

Back last year around April/May of 2007 I was making arrangements to buy a toy poodle puppy. I had contacted the breeder in Carmarthen, emailed each other regularly. She was telling me when the pups would be ready and that her daughter who lived in my neck of the woods would gladly collect the pup and deliver it to me. I was a bit curious about this and asked whether I could come and visit them and see both parents and litter. The emails stopped coming, I tried and tried to contact her but nothing. I am sure this was one of those horrid puppy farm type set ups. In the end I gave up and decided just to wait and bide my time.

At the end of August I was talking to my next door neighbour's grandson who was saying his girlfriend is going to have to put her dog into the dogs home because she no longer wants it. I casually asked what dog it was and to my surprise he said a Westie.

I could not believe that someone who owned a beautiful dog like this no longer wanted it and also when I found out she was only 10 months old, I jumped at the chance of meeting her. So they brought her to me and she was in a terrible state. Fed well but coat neglected and very dirty. She was staying with relatives of the girl as she had no money to feed it or look after it yet she paid £375 for the poor thing seven months before.

She came to me with a borrowed collar and a wire coat hanger as a lead. I was absolutely horrified. I took her immediately, made an emergency appointment with the vet, got hold of a groomer to get her to how she should look and within a week I had this beautiful specimen of a dog.

<a href="http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v31/Beth1471/Poppie/?action=view&current=Poppie.02.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v31/Beth1471/Poppie/Poppie.02.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Now she as happy as anything and so am I. I have had her now for almost one year and it feels like I have had her since a small pup.

So the poodle was not meant for me, I was meant for Poppie. Her name before she came to me was Blossom but I was not overly keen on that name as I think Poppie suited her better.

Hope I haven't bored you with this little tale but I thought it was worth telling.

Beth, what a lovely story. I honestly believe that what is meant to be yours, will not pass you by.

Your story has proved this - well done
